newbie with a few questions

Hi,

I am looking to buy a new (well used) car in about 6/8 months time. Or sooner if my car dies, hope not as I need my savings for my house.

I am wanting a Diesel due to doing 350 miles a week for work, also something with a poke in her and fun, mostly though something that will not kill me on insurance been 21 yr old male.

So I am liking the look of 2 cars, the Seat Ibiza FR TDi or the Skoda Fabia VRS. with the option of getting a re-map to increase the speed with out effecting ecomony (only know this fo the skoda, don't know if the same statement is true for the Seat.)

I am woundering if there are any classic troublesome spots on the Ibiza, or has any driven both.

Price wise from my reseach, I have found the Ibiza to be cheaper used than the Skoda.

I believe the insurance is the simialar, I have not VW, just because I belive that that badge puts the price up.

Or is there any other cars I have missed.

Thanks

Nick

Thanks, yes I need to test drive them, just I have not tried this yet, as if i test drove one and loved it I would be very tempeted to spend my house depoist money on it and my girlfriend would not be happy.

From my research there does not seem to be much between them do they both use PD130 engines?

SEAT looks nice and if cheaper, may have found my car.

Thanks

Thanks, don't want to tuen to much, as can't compromise the MPG too much, if using the same engine a re map would produce similar results in both Cars perforamce wise and MPG wise? I know that there are other factors, tires, gearbox etc

Sorry my car knowledge is not the greatest.

Are there any typical faults with the SEAT, too watch out for?

The VRS and FR Both use the same PD130 Engine

The VRS Comes only in 5 Door and is in insurance group 9

The FR Comes in Both 3 door and 5 Door and is in insurance group 8

From a Generic Remap such as Custom Code Phase 1 you can see around 165bhp from a PD130

remap will increase mpg slightly....

both great cars..if you can find a VRS SE then it has leather seats...but quite rare nowdays.
FR is a great little car, great MPG and still fun to drive

Thanks for all the replies,

I do liek the VRS SE, however they are not cheap even second hand looking at £8-9K.

At the monet the Seat is edging it, due to lower insurance band, better looks and interior. Just need to test drive them and try get a test drive (maybe be hard, I think a 21yr old will not be taken as serously at a garage than a older person)

Can any one recomend a decent place in to get a Re-map down in the south of england area, near protsmouth, heard there is a few up in the midlands, don't mind the travel, jsut easer closer to home.

Thanks
