Recently got my MK2 Leon Cupra, replacing my MK1 of some vintage. Its now got about 1,000m on it. Been surprised by the mpg. On MWay driving, I'm getting about 24-26mpg. Not significantly tanking it yet. I didn't buy it for the mpg, but in harder MWay driving I would have got about 30-31 on my old MK1, and certainly expected better than what I'm getting at the moment. Is this normal?

Fuel: Most 'super' seems to be 97 RON not 98. From what I can tell Shell and tesco (!) are the only 98 RON suppliers. Amount of mileage I do, I don't have the option to shop around a lot; assume people settle for 97 most the time (Texaco, BP, ESSO).

By the by, not happy to realise yesterday that tyres had been set at 35/32 psi rather than 32/29 when I took delivery.

Also can't work out how to sync phone book from mobile to car; initial phonebook uploaded, but its not automatically sync'd updates. Looking at a separate thread on here my plan to delete pairing and see if it re-uploaded may not be a good one (nokia 6320i - I think, or something v. similar).

Any comments welcome - polite ones of course.

Thanks - suspected that might be the case. Will keep a watch on it. Like the new one, but RIP the MK1. Still (slightly) missing the leather/electric seats :) but otherwise glad of the change.

If you are in Ealing, you should try and get to Ace Cafe on 13th Dec. Few leons will be there that night. Assume you know the location off the A406?

I tend to get about 28 mpg at speeds just above the limit on the motorway.

Sticking to 70 mph I can just about average 30, I did get 34 mpg once stuck in 50 mph traffic a lot of the jourmey from Leeds to Birmingham.

Overall average including town driving is about 24/25 mpg.

I always use V-Power or Tesco or at worst BP Ultimate. Tried Sainsbury's super once and the car wasn't happy. BP do do an Ultimate 102 although I've never seen it and read somewhere it is very expensive.

One other tip, keep an eye on your oil level. Mine used a litre in 3000 miles. Not a problem but you don't want to let it get too low.

New Cupra
  • 26mpg average from new - predominantly cross country A roads (no commuter traffic queues).
  • Over 5000 miles on the clock.
  • Exclusively use Shell's V-Power.
  • Never have topped up the oil - still at the top of the 'chequered zone' on the dip stick.

Thanks - and bad news....

Thanks everyone for your responses. Looks like on balance I'm going to have to settle for the 26ish MPG on the Mway or a modified driving style (rather unlikely....).

Shell, Tesco is the conclusion I'd come to. Others as a last resort. Given amount of MWay driving where choice is limited, will be 'others' a fair amount I suspect.

Lesson of the day: never attempt to negotiate nasty (but prevoiusly frequently navigated) width restriction in new car in the dark while on phone (even if it is hands free)....

Any suggestions on a good place to get an alloy repaired? :(:(:(
