Newbie & tip on stuck folding mirrors

Hi All,
New to the forum and I have a platinum grey Cupra TDI. Thought this might be useful to all leon owners with folding mirrors. I parked up a few nights ago and folded the mirrors in and on returning to the car they wouldn't fold out again. I searched this forum but couldn't find a solution. I then took the door panel off, checked the connections and fuses - all ok. I rang the dealer today to book the car in for wednesday and thought I better remove my tuning box, Just as a thought I removed the earth lead from the battery to see if it might reset the mirrors and hey presto when reconnected and the ignition on about 15 secs later as it says in the handbook the mirrors moved back to normal position. So if anyone else has the same problem try disconnecting the battery first. By the way, good forum with a lot of good info on - I'll be back.

Welcome to the Forum.

My Leon FR came with no code. It's a lease Car and had no code in the Aura book like my old 20VT. I've looked on the headunit (which is now replaced to a Sony Unit anyway) When i phoned the dealer who supplied the car, he gave some **** and bull story that it was on the Lease companies invoice. Anyone else had similar?

Looks like when the car goes back in 3 yrs, it'll have SAFE on it. Oh well

Broken?

Hi, I also came to the forum to find a solution since one of my mirrors refuses to unfold without help after a guy at the car wash unfolded it by hand before I had time to react.
The mechanism seems to have a damaged gear somewhere or something, anyway I'd like to know if someone has disassembled one of those mirrors and if it would be possible to repair without having to go to the dealer and buy a complete new mirror.
That's a pretty bad design flaw, folding mirrors that break if you fold them

Anyways, any help would be appreciated, thanks!

DO A SEARCH.

I've written the answer to this loads of times in the past.

If they won't fold out:

Key out of ignition.
Unfold mirrors by hand, they will make a crack noise as the move out.
Mirror knob to top position.
key in ignition, ignition on, but don't start car.
Wait 30 seconds, then turn knob to bottom position. Mirrors will make cracking noises and fold in.
Wait 30 seconds.
Knob back to top, and the mirrors should unfold.

It's detailed in your owners manual.

The major thing is that when the control module in the mirror housing starts to wear out, it become susceptable to the voltage drop when you start the car. So you must unfold the mirrors before starting the car. All will be happy then.

Simon.
