Newbie - increasing bhp.....

Hello

I'm picking up a 56 plate Ibiza FR tdi this week...

I will be looking to increase bhp soon - I'm very confused though...

Heard a bit about remapping and chipping - is it the same thing ?

I don't want to go mad - something around 170 bhp would be fine....

What options do I have ? Are they any decent plug and play kits that I can fit/unfit myself or are these useless ?

Also how much do they effect insurance ?

Similar. Chipping is pretty much old school nowadays as it involves removing the chip in the ecu and replacing it with a new one. Remapping just rewrites the existing chip, so less invasive.

Plug & play (tuning boxes) are pretty worthless, and even the better ones cost more than a decent remap anyway. Stick with a reputable tuner and a remap.

Also how much do they effect insurance ?

Depends on your insurance company, but just make sure you do tell them.

These guys are always a good starting point - just remember to declare everything to ensure that you are insured.
