Hi everyone,

Recently I have just had two coil packs changed on my Leon 1.4s after the revs began fluctuating when I was at a stand still and the vibrations became really bad. After these had been changed the car was driving great but last night it started feeling really 'bumpy' when I was excelerating through the gears. When I hit about 60mph the bumpyness stops.

Has anyone got any idea what would cause this????

can you expand on the symptoms please.

do you mean the engine felt 'bumpy' or the ride? in what way was it 'bumpy'?

When i'm speeding up and changing through the gears as soon as I hit the excelerator after the change up it feels like its not a smooth exceleration.......its bumpy like its about to stall - hope this helps but i'm finding it really hard to describe!

P.S its the engine - I popped the bonet last night and had a listen

Let me take a guess (I have a 1.4 as well btw).

When you changed gear the car would jerk forward harshly when lifting off the clutch (as if you lifted the clutch up too fast).

After turning the engine off for a few minutes. Then upon starting up. The revs struggle and move between 500 and 1000. Eventually settlng at 650/700 revs.

(This one doesn't happen all the time)
When you pressed the clutch in when approaching lights/stopping etc. The revs dropped quickly and the rev counter bounced off the 500 revs mark and jumped up over 2000 rev mark. Then settled at around 650 revs with the engine sounding as if its struggling to turn over. Accleration seems sluggish and slower than usual.

Has the engine ever cut out while driving and you've pressed the clutch in (resulting in loss of power steering and brakes) ?

If any of the above is yes then you should have the EGR valve checked (replacement is £140 from SEAT) and also take a look at the throttle body (remove the air filter housing) and get it cleaned. Also get the values reset.

If you are getting a misfire when accelerating and the engine management light comes on (flashes 5 times) then goes off and the car shakes when idle. Theres an intermittent fault on the ignition (Plugs or Coil Pack)
