Hi folks,

I'm new here in case you're wondering where I've arrived from!

I own a metallic blue Ibiza Cupra 20VT, I've had it from new, 2001 on a 51 plate. It's done 54k miles and I've arrived here courtesy of Google. I'm starting to get a few problems with the car now.

But for the purposes of this thread, I've got a flatspot on the near-side rear tyre - just the one flatspot, not a whole collection of them. Consquently, there's a vibration at speed and it also sounds horrible. I have a feeling I know where I flat-spotted too (a bit TOO enthusiastic at one point!!).

I was wondering (I have next to ZERO mechanical knowledge) if there is anything I should get checked before I go replacing the tyres on the car? The fronts are pretty badly worn and are coming up for renewal anyway, so I'm looking at a set of four (better start saving then).

I've also noticed that Pirelli seem to have binned the P-Zero Assimetrico 195/45ZR16 84Y that were fitted as standard, so does anyone have any experience of what else to fit? I've never been keen on the tyres it's had from new but haven't found anything else that seems to fit it anyway!

Cheers!

I've got Eagle F1 GS-D2 on another car I own. They're great! Other half has got Toyo Proxes T1-R on her car and they are astonishing!

The thing that I'm struggling with is that I can't find tyres that are the correct size, with the correct speed and load rating. I don't want to end-up (if the worst happens and I stick it through the hedge) with an argument with insurance company assessor who says "Wrong tyres mate" and wallop - my car's history and so's my bank balance.

I found Toyo Proxes T1-R/S's very soft, didnt last very long at all. As for sizes, have you checked,

www.mytyres.co.uk ?

They give speed ratings too.

Yep, I've done MyTyres, thanks for suggesting it though. They suggest two Pirellis (Assimetrico and Nero) and Goodyear F1 GS-D2. Which are the wrong load rating from what I can see.

Hmm, thats no good then. I'm not sure an insurance assessor would'nt actually check the details of the tyre. More than likely just check if the tyres are not bold.

Incidentally Beaker, in your "Pictures & Spec - (218.1BHP & 261.0 lb/ft)" link, I'm assuming that your reg plate is false? If so and your intention is to hide your car's identity, you might want to look at those plots you posted.
