New Stereo Install

Hi All,

I'm currently in the process of installing a new stereo in my Leon, and just wanted to check with you wise men if my understanding is right. I don't have steering wheel controls or Bluetooth.

Below is an image with the standard HU out so you can see the wiring have. The aftermarket stereo i'm fitting is ISO...so they obviously don't link.

Am I right in thinking this is what I need:

1. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC5-100-S...2?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item256a2e6ac0 - to quickly change the aerial.
2. Then to connect to the ISO on the new HU, I was told to get this http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ctsst001-can-bus-steering-control-adaptor.html . Can someone confirm this is right? As this just looks like a steering wheel control adapter to me, but i've not got steering wheel controls? ...If this is right, is this a good price?

Thanks

in answer to question 1 -

Nope this is the wrong adaptor, yes it will fit, but the VAG group are amplified aerials on the roof, so you need the same ends as shown in your link but need the one with the 'tube' in the centre and a blue remote lead to power it up from your after market headunit.

in answer to questions 2 -

You can use that adaptor, however it can be a bit of a waste using this as you don't have the steering wheel controsl. HOWEVER, this adaptor WILL allow you to quickly connect your aftermarket stereo without the need to connect the aftermarket stereo to and ignition feed (easily found in one of the spare fuse locations in the fuse box). This adaptor will also give you illumination outputs as well - useful if you've got a DVD screen as it means you can get the display to dim when driving at night.

The Connects IGN-GEN is only really useful when fitting phone kits as, it ideally needs to be run through a relay to give you a proper 10amp feed (which is what most aftermarket stereos need for ignition). I use them for fitting basic Parrot kits as they only need about half an amp feed.

Hope this helps !

Thanks Andy! Great reply!

Sounds like the CTSST001 is the best and easiest way to do it, even if I dont have steering controls.

Thanks

Dynamic Sounds were indeed the cheapest for that lead. The one you linked to will connect your stereo, but as you say it's geared up for the canbus interface.

If your stereo is basic, and you don't have steering wheel controls, if I were you I'd just buy a basic harness:
EDIT I can't post links yet!! Search for PC2-75-4 SEAT ALTEA, IBIZA,LEON, TOLEDO ISO WIRING HARNESS ADAPTOR on ebay - should be £3

This is the lead I bought when I first got my Leon - just so I could put in my old stereo that had a USB port on it. It worked fine, but because there's no switched live, I had to connect the permanent and switched lives on this harness together. This meant the stereo worked all the time, regardless of ignition position, so I had to get used to manually switching it off.

I have since changed the stereo, hence why I know Dynamic Sounds were the cheapest for the full harness.

The CTSST001 is the easiest thing to use, especially if you might fit a double din screen and reverse camera as it also gives you handbrake and reverse outputs.
