New Piston for 1.8T

Mahle now has an aftermarket piston for the 1.8T. Note the strutted design. They also have a thicker than stock crown. Best of all they are cheaper than the stock pistons!
8.5:1
Forged, 20mm pins. 81mm, 81.25, 82 (I think)

Are you sure the Mahle has 8.5:1 compression.

I was under the impression that mahle aftermarket pistons where stock compressions?

Just a note mahle are the oe supplier to vw.

Any uk retailers?

These are a brand new race piston- thicker dome, and ligher than stock. Your are correct the stock ones are Mahle- and darn fine pistons- just a bit pricey if you need to buy them.
These would be good for people who want to replace their rods but have the later style 19mm pin pistons, or those who were looking to build very high boost engine.

Not sure of commercial post rules here, so e-mail for further info about where to buy

Yeah the std pistons are very good just a bit high on the compression side tho.

PM me on where to get them.

Are you sure of the compression of 8.5:1?

There are 3 division to mahle OE/aftermarket/motorsport.

The aftermarket are of same compression to OE.

I'm looking for 20mm wrist pins one also.

Are there rods available to match up with these? And how much HP are they reccomended for?

Aren't the standard pistons good for 400hp and rods 350?

I've made 700HP on stock AMU/BAM pistons- they are very nice. These are lighter and stronger- how much HP I don't know, but certainly 1000. These take a standard 144mm long, 20mm pin rod.

These are for people who:
Have engines with the later style powdered metal rods with 19mm pins who wish to replace the rods, and thus need pistons.

Want to lower compression and really turn up the boost.

I take it the LCR AMK/BAM engines have the 19mm pins so to upgrade the rods you would need the pistons also?

What are prices like for rods?

Sorry, no, I wasn't being clear- the BAM/AMU have the 20mm pins and the "old style" rods. For these engines I would just replace the rods- there are many available Pauter, Carrillo, Eurospec..... so those engines really are the easiest to work with. It is the ones with the 19mm pins that get tricky- I'm sorry I don't know the European codes for those engines. In the US, they are AWW/AWP and some Bettle ones.
