New person starting problems

Hey guys
i have been lucky enough to get myself a 52 plate facelift LC. i have had it for a week now and its been great to drive. but it has a wee starting problem.

after the car sat overnight its a bit reluctant to start. i get in, put the key in the ignition, all the lights come on as usual. wait for most of them to go off as usual. put the clutch down then turn the key and..............nothing. no clicking, no attempt to start the engine.
this morning it took me nearly 10 mins to start the car. i have the tried starting it without waiting for the lights to go off. locking the car then unlocking (as if i had just got in again).

then out of the blue and with no reasoning it will just start and run perfectly. i first thought it would be the cold but it hasnt been cold at all lately. could it be something will the key that may stop the immobiliser for working as it should? i have noticed the service light flashes could this be something to do with it?

any ideas are welcome. i have searched throughthe forums but i could not find anyone with a similar problem!

thanks!

Sounds dubious

Have you checked your battery and alternator?

I'd also check for any signs of damp in the driver footwell in case you have any water getting into the fuse box behind the dash. If you have signs of this could be excess condensation in the windscreen in the mornings.

Get someone to VAGCOM the car if these pointers don't help, but you'd have to hope its not immobiiliser.

i havent done any thorough checks yet. but when it does start, its perfect. so i dont think it could be either the battery or the altenator otherwise it wouldnt start the way it does if at all.

i have heard with a problem with certain clios (i know its not a clio) that to start the engine you have to press a button on the remoate as you turn the key in the ignition. its not supposed to work like that but its runs fine otherwide.

i will have a look at the battery tonight. im pretty sure its still on the original one, so it wont be long before i need i would expect

i have no kinda of identified this problem! after looking high and low on here. it appears that when i wiggle the key in the barrel it will start.

does anyone know for sure if this is the ignition switch?
