Just got the new pads to go on the rear of the ibiza from the dealer and they have double sided tape on the back of them:

Is that to stick the piston to the pad to prevent squeal? if so presumably you don't add any copaslip to the back of the pads?

I think they are just there to cover up the stuff already applied to the pad. I had some tape on mine and removed it before fitting.

Yes you do need to remove the backing paper from the sticky tape, and yes its the anti-squeal "thing". That is the trouble with buying most aftermarket pads, they come without the anti-squeal pads - my Passat B5 sounds just like a taxi with its ATE aftermarket pads from ECP.

You have ended up getting the right bits by going to the right place, I am still waiting for my right pads from an aftermarket outlet - may need to wait a little longer though!!

Cheers RUM4MO

All done this morning before the rain started!

Nothing was seized so I didn't even get to play with the mallet.

Squeak free and effective braking has been resumed, now to do the front wishbone rear bushes.

Good news, I also had some luck today, my OEM (Textar) rear pads that are exactly the same as used at factory (same as your VAG ones but with wear sensor) arrived today - I just wish the aftermarket outlets would try to buy in the correct pads for all the model variants they claim to cover - and not just buy in something that might, if you are not too choosey be okay!
