New Owner Wheel Advice Please

Hello All,

Just thought I'd introduce myself, I'm soon to be a new Toledo owner.

I am mostly into my Japanese cars and have a Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205 as a weekend Trackday project car which I am currently rebuilding.

However I've found myself a really nice Toledo which I am picking up next weekend to use as an everyday car. I am really looking forward to using it as a daily diesel commuting car.

I've managed to find myself an immaculate 2003 red 1.9tdi 110bhp SE non PD MK2 Toledo with only 70k on it. It's got the cream interior in unmarked condition, it's been remapped to 135bhp 230lbft and it's had parking sensors professionally fitted too and is in great condition. I'm really looking forward to picking it up. I know it's a non pd 5 speed model, but at least that keeps the insurance down !! at an amazing group 6.

I am one one of those people that likes to drive around in a clean smart looking car even if its only a daily driver. So I plan to do a few things to the Toledo to smarten it up, first will be white number plate bulbs and sidelights possibly a private plate, and a full colour code of the bump strips, front bottom of the bumper and also rear valance to neaten the car up and remove all traces of black plastic.

I might add a cupra-r splitter to the bumper if it fits correctly. Has anyone done this to a standard toledo bumper? Is the bumper to narrow? I fitted a cupra-r splitter to my last car which was a MK4 Golf R32 and it fitted perfectly !

I will then be lowering the car. Not drastically on coilovers but maybe 20mm / 30mm just so it sits on the road better and finally fitting some wheels.

Now I come on to where I would like your guys help and that is with choosing wheels...

Who can give me some pictures for inspiration on wheels?? Please

The wheels the car comes with are 15" and look like a propellor.

As far as I understand the Toledo is 5x100 and I'd be looking at ET35, maybe ET30 and I guess I'd be looking at 225/40/18 for the correct tyres?

I like the idea of keepign a car OEM, so I'd love Leon Cupra-R wheels, but they seem so difficult to get hold of, I'm thinking of Audi TT 18's, Audi RS4 wheels, or anything of this kind. (Not a huge fan of the 5 spoke RS6 wheels)

Anyway any help appreciated, I look forward to posting up some pictures when I get the car and look forward to ownership.

Cheers in advance for all your input !!

Hi mate and welcome to SCN.

Sounds like you have some good ideas already for the Toledo :D

I'm pretty sure someone will have the Cupra R splitter fitted to the standard Bumper as I've seen it mentioned somewhere.

Wheels should be 5x100 although some later models may have changed to 5x112. 225x40x18s tyres are fine.

Check through some of the readers rides threads to get some ideas on wheels.

Cheers for replying ! I've just noticed from another thread your car is the gold one with the TT wheels. Very nice !

I like what you've done with it, you are on exactly the same wavelength of thinking as me !!

I've found some Leon Cupra-R wheels I think I'm going to go for. They are extremely expensive  @ nearly £600 without tyres, but they are literally in boxes with no tyres fitted and brand new and I think they would look great on a Red Toledo.

You only live once hey :p

I'm unsure of the offset of LCR wheels, but I asume its ET38 so with some 5mm spacers, I think they will look pretty awesome. I will almost certainly have to lower the car though.

I got a call from the garage today, the toledo sailed through its MOT with no advisories, so I'm still picking it up this Friday.

I'll post up a picture when I can ;)

Also can anyone please advice on which lowering springs work well on the Toledo.
I'm not buying coilovers as this car will be a daily driver.

I'm just looking for a 40mm drop with a more "composed" cornering ability, don't want it to corner on rails and not go over potholes without feeling like I've hit a crater.

Looking on ebay now....so many makes

G-MAX, JAMEX, SPAX, H&R, PI....I'm sure they all do a similar job, but I bet some ride better than others.

Advice Appreciated !!

I picked up the Toledo on Friday. Prettyhappy with it so far, but it really does look pretty awful in standard form so I'm unleashed my plan as fast as possible now.

I'm picking up Leon Cupra-R wheels for the car tomorrow and now I'm looking to order some suspension.

I've also found a couple of spring and shock kits that are unadjustable, these look great as I'm not after coilovers, but I'm unsure of the quality.

So as mentioned above, can anyone please advise on experience with particular springs etc. Much appreciated.
