Had a cupra r 03 for 3 weeks now. all is good, common boot rattle, i'll get round to eventually...but wanted to know if i had a problem with it..from about 80-90 on motorway it seemed to 'hold back' for a second then 'surge' forward...
Is this something i need to get looked at that could get worse or a common characteristic?

Keep it simple please, no expert with motors, just knew i liked the look/performance of a cupra r

thanks

what gear were you? were you accellerating hard at the time or were you holding 80 and then just touching the throttle to speed up?

5th- fairly hard acceleration...odd sensation of it holding back for a brief second..then a bit of a surge....difficult to explain really...

if it was mid acceleration then the turbo would already be spooled up so not gonna be turbo lag, possibly overboost causing the turbo to stall?

If it plays up much longer I would take a gander at it or take to garage.

I have not heard that as being a common problem and the last thing you want is the all important seconds to tick away while the CTR passes you with delight thinking he actually has a chance at that speed!:)

Could be the signs of a faulty DV? Hard acceleration in 5th will be quite high boost.

Yep my first reaction would be the good old Dump Valve (DV) if it is it will get worse and worse.....eventually you will floor it and not much will happen (like massive turbo lag) then the car takes off.

The ECU should have logged this as a fault (if it is the case) so any half decent garage should be able to read the codes and establish if this is the fault.

You can buy a replacement from SEAT but i'd recommend upgrading to a Forge 007p (Lifetime warranty) around £80 and no it's not one of the Whooooshy type ones ;)
