New Mk4 emits a sweet smell when warm

I've had my 1.2 Reference for about a week now. Is it normal for it to emit a sort of sweet, burning smell when new (the closest thing I can think of is when you make flapjack --- hot treacle and oats). It was really strong at first, and nine days later (360 miles) I can still pick up a faint whiff. It's only noticable when the car has warmed up and stationary. I've checked under the bonnet and it doesn't appear to be heamorrhaging anything. Someone said it's the protective paint applied for shipping burning off. If this is so, how long should it last?

Sounds more like the grease and other transit coatings they use burning off the car tbh. I had it when I put my car on the RR a few months back, but it's gone now.

Thanks. I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow, however as I think there's a rubber pillar missing behind the rear left-hand seat causing it to rattle. I'm also noticing the occasional squeak from the front suspension when going over speed bumps/typical (i.e., poorly maintained) British roads... when it comes to the odd noise, I may just well be paranoid. But bits missing...
