I'd be disappointed if you didn't get a lot more than 650 out of a tank.

We can get that from our PD140 A3 with some prudent driving - and the A3 SE weighs a good 90KG more than the Eco SE

That makes me think there is somethign wrong with my PD140, which doesn't seem to be getting more than 40MPG (mixed Town/Country/A Road) at the moment!

Top Gear magazine drove a 1.9 Eco back from the SEAT factory in spain at 50mph with the bonnet and doors taped up, they got 939 miles from a tank.

I'm not sure you could do that with 'normal' driving, but the newer 1.6TDi might....

You'll easily get 650 miles per tank, I can get that in mine! I think you should aim for 750-800!

Don't get me wrong - you have to try hard to get that mileage from a tank, but it is possible - as soon as you just drive 'normally' you won't be able to get those sort of figures.

Having said that, we're still getting mid to high 40's now and we're not making any effort to drive it economically - the FR taught me that!

I've found that tyres can make a big difference to MPG - when we bought it the A3 had (I think) Michelin tyres all round (can't remember the model, but they were well respected) - I replaced these with Good Year F1 GSD3's all round and the MPG dropped quite considerably.

At the moment we have steel wheels with Good Year Ultragrip 7+'s fitted (proper winter tyres) - the MPG has gone up again

It's worth considering eco tyres if your not into 'spirited' driving.

With Pirelli P7's my car said my average mpg was mid to high 40's, switch to Goodyear NCT5 and it's low 50's.

You've only got to get 62.5 mpg to get 750 from a tank, damn I could do that if I didn't live anywhere near a town or traffic.
