New Leon 1.9 TDI - Sluggish?

GSP

Guest
Hi all,

Would you guys say the new leon with a 1.9 TDI at 105PS is sluggish? I am really dissapointed that there is no 110 or 130 variant.

Is there a rechip available for the New Leon 1.9 TDI, if so what would be the benefits and would I really notice a difference?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't driven one, but it's not going to be lightning quick with that kind of power and weight.

No doubt it'll be remappable if not already; and judging by the gains normally seen on TDIs, then yes you'll most definitely notice a difference !

So there are no other variants than the 105ps TDI ? I thought there would have been.
If not now, there will be before long, the 140ps unit is in the Altea so should make it to the Leon too; maybe even a 170ps unit at some point...

I was asking my VW dealer about the 170ps motor, he told me it was orginally expected around about now for the Passat and Golf but has been "delayed", he didn't know the reason why.

Hope they get it sorted soon, as I get to choose a new company car in May :)

IIRC there was a delay back round 2002-2003 with the PD130 engine, I don't think the supply could meet the demand...

Yes there is, its called the 2.0TDI @ 140PS

I havent ever checked but i assumed that the 1.9TDI is the same as in the "old" leon, therefore it is already known how upgradeable it is.

i have just bought an altea 1.9tdi ref sport for the wife. I had a drive and was surprised at how brisk it felt for 105 ps. Obviously its the 185 lbs of torque talking but for my lovely lady the performance is fine. Chipped will make it excellent. Would have liked the 2.0L but didnt have it on the revoloutions deal of the century!!

ive driven a 105bhp new passat and it was really quite slow due to lack of power and higher weight. so a remap would certianly be on the cards, its the same 1.9 unit that been around some time so there should be a few available to you. should see it up to about 150bhp.
