I am going to (hopefully) pick up a LCR this weekend but just been told they have not been able to change over the private plate which it had (which is incidentally naff).

This means I have to sort out the plate swapping my self. Has this ever happened to anyone and does anyone know how easy it is to swap back to the original plate? There is an issue here with a lost log book that is causing all the problems.

I just want the LCR! been waiting to pick this up for a month[:@]

I had to wait a couple of weeks for a private reg to changed, but the dealer handled all that, Its normally pretty easy to transfer a reg but i'm not sure how it works if theres no log book.

I take it the person you intend on buying the car from wants the private reg back.

Wouldn't the first step to be to get a replacement log book? I know what you mean about wanting to get the LCR as soon as possible but I reckon this could be a right nut ache if you don't get it sorted out right from the start.

Find your local DVLA office and take the new owner bit of the logbook with you, along with reg transfer document for the new plate. Make sure you have the MOT, copy of the current tax disc, and your insurance covernote too. It'll take 5 mins to do once you get to speak to someone.

Cheers for the responses

They have sent off for the new log book but we are not exactly sure when this will arrive - the dealer is being a little vague! The damn original log book has strangely disappeared.

It's not the one from Ebay - I thought about buying one from Ebay but decided to pay the extra and go to a dealer.

I think I will have to get this sorted as you say John, cause could be hassle once I have parted with the cash and driven away.

Personally, I would wait and let the dealer sort this out. When I bought my LCR it had just had private plates taken off and the dealer said that the new log book was on its way from DVLA. 6 weeks later it still had not arrived so ended up having to sort it out myself. Luckily the new log book arrived in my name 4 days before my tax disc was due to expire!

Unfortunately my old car is not running well so I need to pick this beauty up. But yes think I will get something in writing at least for them to pay for any cost in transferring across.

Good point about the insurance admin. Not thought of that.
