Im wanting to replace the Alana Head unit in my Mk4.

Got my eye on this unit:
Alpine IDA-X301 (cant post a link as am still a newbie)

I know how to remove the alana unit, will it be just a case of fitting the cage from the new headunit, slotting in the connectors and im away?

The new unit comes with a cable to attach ipod which can be hidden in the glovebox, i take it ill have to drill a small hole for this cable as the glovebox looks pretty sealed up, with no access behind the dash...

Has anyone on here had experience with this head unit? do i need any connection adapters or other bits?

Any help, much appreciated.

Being an Alpine head unit, I think you'll have to swap the red and yellow connections around. IE, red-yellow, and yellow-red. If you don't, then you'll lose all your radio memory presets etc.

For the glove box, there's a plate in the top that you can push out (if you don't have a glvoe box light). You'll be able to feed the ipod cable through there. If you have a light, then you'll have to drill a small hole as you suggested.

Think thats it, your spot on with fitment as far as i can remember :D

I have the Alpine ida-x300 which is the next one down and they dont come with the ipod cable you have to buy it seperate at £25....Although it does come with a cable what you can attach a memory stick so you can play music this way, well thats what i did anyway i bought a 16gb memory stick, works spot on mate !!!!!!... I run my cable under the center console and put my memory stick so it sits in the compartment just below the handbrake.....Also as stated in the post above this the red and yellow do have to be swapped you need to split them and put the red to yellow if you know what i mean.......If you have any problems just give me a shout...... P.s you wont be dissapointed with the headunit they are spot on.... :funk:[B)]
