New fuel filter and spark plugs

Hi everyone

I'm planning to replace my spark plugs and fuel filter on my 1.0 Arosa, as it's done over 53000 miles and not had these replaced.

I have found a website - www.vwspares.co.uk - a.k.a. AVS Car Parts, selling all the bits I need. I've used the site before for brake pads and discs for my sister's old Lupo. Anyone got experience of their components in terms of filters and spark plugs?

I've read a couple of stories on this forum about non-genuine fuel filters causing problems. I guess the same may be true / potential for spark plugs?

The fuel filter they sell for my car is manufactured by Mann, and the spark plugs are by Beru - ????

What are people's opinions on this?

Thanks!

I bet you will really notice the difference when you change the plugs. I changed mine at 3 years old and on about 32K miles, it pulled muchbetter after them and a good service.

Although its still not had its fuel filter change, i got one from the dealers last week, think it was about £8.50, so im hopefully going to fit that today.

Id just get a genuine Seat filter, its only £8-£9 anyway, plus it looks better having a branded filter.

You want to be getting NGK spark plugs , I've not heard of any problems with those :)

As for the fuel filter, as cardaft say's they're not much from VW, or if you buy a Fram one, they are pretty good quality (same for all the other filters too - I have a greencotton air filter, and Fram for everything else)

In November I bought all my parts from there, vwspares.co.uk (Spark plugs, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, pollon filter etc etc) and since replacing them the car been ace.

I had branded items before and wouldn't say they are any better. (Halfords oil filters are crap!!!)

Since replacing the fuel filter its improved running hell of a lot!

Go for it I say, mines an arosa sport 67,000 miles.

I just replaced my fuel filter on my 1.0 Arosa earlier.

What a chew on that is!.

One of the clips wouldnt come off so i think i lost about half of the fuel in the tank

All done now though, recorded it in the cars service book too.

Engine seems a little smoother maybe, if that spossible from a fuel filter change  and the fuel pump doesnt make as much noise either.

I agree! mine did seem to run smoother too. Did you crack open the old filter to see what it was like inside? my was black :p

As for the clips, was it the one towards the front of the car? My back one clipped streight off then the front one was a b;tch :-o
The fule that spills out is just from whats in the pipe / old filter. Does seem to be alot but in reality no more than a cup full will come out. (well.... should come out lol)

It was the clip coming from the back of the car going to the front, right pain it was.

No i havent cut it open, im planning too though, will be interesting to see what its like.

I saw one cut open on another forum and it was like mud inside!
