i currently have a 1.2 '05 reg engine and i was wanting to go bigger.
i have found a 1.4 '06 engine for £450 (not inc p+p) in a local garage/scrappy
it says the engine code is BNV whats does this mean??
also if i did go and buy it how would i go about and put it in -obv go to a garge- but i mean what other parts would i need, how much cost it cost, should i get it remapped after etc

any help would be greatly appricated

it would probably be cheaper in the long run for you to sell your 1.2 and buy a 1.4. By the time you pay a garage to fit the replacement engine, labour costs and additional parts (you're probably going to want to do timing belts on the new one etc etc) you'll be into £1000s...

is that 1000s as in '1100 and 1200' or '2000 and 3000' because i dont see how it would be cheaper to buy a 1.4 which would cost about 5000. i have spent quite a bit on my 1.2 so i dont want to sell it if i dont have too

Off the top of my head....

+ Different Gearbox
+ an ECU,
+ Fuel System Overhaul,
+ whole new exhaust,
+ Suspension,
+ Brakes,
+ Battery,
+ Higher Road Tax Bracket,
+ telling yout insurance your 1.2 is now a 1.4...

I'm not even sure the engine mounts would be in the same place, if they're not then that means farting about with cutting and welding and so on. Somehting I wouldn't do as it would immediately weakens the sructure of the car. Just because all Ibiza's look the same from the outside doesn't mean they are the same underneath.

You could easily pick up a 1.4 for £4500.

I reckon all in all about 2 - 3 days worth of work... could cost as much as £3000 extra I reckon.

True story I drove a 1.4 Ibiza on a 54 plate at it was really flat feeling.

As far as I remember the 1.4 only has 15Bhp more as standard and the torque difference isn't that noticeable either...

Youve got it in one mate

Not really, if its the 1.4 that has a mere 85bhp and you have a 75bhp 1.2, then I would bank on it, the fact yours is a 12v means its pokey bottom end, and as above, doesnt 'feel' flat. Plus your car will be lighter. Id like to see a 1.4 85bhp get away from a 1.2 75bhp model please.

Whilst im at it, are you aware that words like "well" and "still" have two l's? Whilst would, isnt spelt wud. Text speak isnt welcome in these parts, so id re-frain from it, where possible, or should I say, where pos.

I have however a great idea how to make your car faster, either...

1. Dont, save your money for when you are

A. Older and wiser
B. Dont feel the need to go 'rEEt' fast

Whilst my other idea would be

2. A big cliff.

I would not even bother doing anything else to your car filter and exhaust are the basics and you have done that.
I had a 1.3 Yaris with 86bhp, slow and boring but I saved money by not doing anything to it, so after a year I had saved enough to part ex the Yaris and buy the Ibiza I really wanted.
So basicly what im saying is just live with what ya got, save some money in an ISA etc and then in a couple months buy the car you really want.

Perhaps slightly harsh, but T.Spark is one of the people to inform you on this kind of thing. There are few here more attuned to the dark arts of tuning ;)

I understand the frustration - I have a 1.2, and sometimes, it does feel like too little power. But at the same time, the low end poke in 1st, 2nd and 3rd if you give it some revs are more than capable in town and on anything but 50mph+ roads.

Save your cash - do a few visual mods to the car, make it sound a little bit more pissed off and then leave it at that. No matter what you do, you won't get a whole lot more out of it. Save your money for your next, or other, car - something you will buy with the attention of turning into a bit of a monster, not something that was reliable and cheap to insure.
