Just had a Allards helix clutch fitted and new clutch release bearing fitted by my local garage. When pulling away the clutch really bites hard, and judders, it makes no difference how slow or fast you dis-engage the clutch of how many revs you use, it just gets to it's biting point then judders until it is fully dis-engaged. In heavy traffic when you are on/off the clutch you just cant get a smooth rhythm, and you feel like you are kangarooing along !

Also when in 4th from say 1200 RPM, you out you foot flat down and the car picks up slowly until 1800 RPM, at which point the old clutch would slip for about 1000 RPM, but this one again judders through the box for about 100-200 RPM then all is ok and the car pulls all the way.

Is this normal for a Uprated Clutch ? or has the installer made a mistake with something.

The only thing I can think of at the moment, is that the Clutch pressure plate was not changed, they told me they did not change it after they had put it back together. Would this cause this or make any difference ?

Cheers for any assistance.

That doesnt sound right mate at all.
If you havent changed your pressure plate and your old clutch was slipping then it is most probable that the pressure plate has been weakend. With the heat build up from clutch slip, the pressure plate will have been overheated, and it may be that now the clutch isnt lifting correctly.
Clutch judder is usually caused due to the fact that the pressure plate isnt lifting correctly and the pressure plate is catching durin take up. This can be caused by a few things, either the tangental springs are damaged, the diaphram fingers are damaged or weakend or it has been misalighned. If it is misaligned by only about 1mm at the edge of the pressure plate, it can be asmuch as 3 mm in the centre and this will effect the lift aswell. Also if the bearing is misaligned this will also cause clutch judder
Take it back to whoever fitted it and get them to have a look. If worse comes to worse you will need a new pressure plate and possibly a new driven plate.

Cheers Spaniels FR, excellent info, will take it to them and ask them what they think.

Just one question, what do you mean by a new driven plate, do you mean the new Helix clutch plate, I have just brought ?

I have no idea what type of clutch, just I brought it from Allards, It is a Helix plate that they use on all diesel upgrades.

New bearing and hydraulic Arm ?

Just found out, flywhell was fine with no marks, so it is still original flywheel.

I think that he is still running the dual mass flywheel. Im not sure what type of driven plate allards supply in these kits.
If it is the flywheel, then your new driven plate will be knackered by now.
When i say driven plate i mean the middle plate that you have replaced.
