I recently stumbled across a thread somewhere (sorry i cant remember where it was and havent been able to find the original).
Highlighted was the fact that new ABS units being installed on MY09+ seat models now have long coding incorporated into the ABS control unit and the re-programming of any drivetrain control units will cause the ABS unit to loose its long coding - resulting in the loss of ABS.
The way around this when using VCDS is to store the long coding first before any work is carried out, it will more than likely be stored if you run an auto scan then print out the info. thus saving an embarrassing trip to the dealers who can obtain the coding via there BTAC server (online direct code access for coding keys and radios).
The bulletin read as follows -
"New ABS (anti-lock braking system) control units have been introduced to MY09 SEAT vehicles including the new ibiza. If you replace, remove or refit the ABS unit or flash any drivetrain control unit (dash panel insert, immobiliser control unit or engine control unit) the long coding of the ABS control unit could be erased; resulting in the ABS warning light being illuminated, no ABS function and the fault code 01042 000:control unit incorrectly coded being stored.
The new control unit is coded using 18 bytes of long code rather than the traditional method of a 5 digit number. Each vehicle has its own long code depending on the equipment fitted, similiar to on-board voltage control unit and convenience system control unit.
We recommend that you make a note of the ABS control unit long coding, as a matter of routine, before any of the work listed above is performed. If the long code is not recorded in this way and online coding faults occur it will be necessary to submit a DISS technical enquiry along with the diagnosis log so a long code can be requested directly from the factory which you can then enter manually"
I believe that its ABS mk80 or 90 now in use and they are the units effected.
