need some reassurance - black smoke on tdi

Hi,

I need some reassurance - I've just driven home from work, heard a pop and then car started throwing out black smoke, noticeable power drop too. I wasn't thrashing the car (for a change!) when it happened. A nice taxi driver pulled up alongside and shouted exhaust at me so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that's all it is but my other half is saying it could be the turbo - v bad news!!! Has anyone else had similar? Its a 2002 1.9tdi 130pd with phase 2 custom code, cotton green filter, decat stainless exhaust. Only 57k on the clock and fully serviced. No engine warning lights at all.

I've been looking on some other threads and it mentions oil leaking (???) - I 've had a look under the car and can't see any drips. I'm not very technical but love my car so if someone could tell me anything in very simple terms I would really appreciate it

:help:

Could be tubby seals or gaskets.

Is there any extra noise under load?

i would look over all the intake pipes from turbo to inlet manifold, they have a habbit of blowing off an you loose you boost pressure , hence power loss and smoke.

there was a bit more noise - my partner got home and had a look and found one of the pipes had blown off as you said. I just hope that once that's fixed it will be OK again, I wonder if it has been on it's way out for a few weeks - I had noticed a drop in mpg but had put it down to the hot weather and thrashing the car more to get the power from it.

Thanks for your help

If the high pressure boost hoses are held on by jubilee clips, change the for mikalor clamps. They wont pop off again :)
