Hy folks, just got some prices from that 'my-tyre' co: that advertises on this very site..
my budget is tight at the mo, after suspension mods and new 17's.
i got a quote for £147 for 4 budget(remold) tyres in size 215/45/17.

now my querie is ; guy in kwik fit told me today, after a sharp intake of breath, oh no don't touch them, you'll get bad juddering, impossible to balance blah, blah, blah...:blahblah: :blahblah:
now while i realise remolds are obviously not my first choice, alas all i use my car for is the usual family chores, (cruising and racing days over). surely in this day and age even a remold must have a certain standard....

Is kwik fit man, just spinning me a yarn to get me to buy his £70 each tyres.

or will thes edo the job..
cheers:starwars:

sod that mate, get some decent rubber under you.thats the only contact you have with the road,i try and make it as good a contact as humanly possible.
how crap are you going to feel with yourself if you end up in a ditch because you scrimped on tyres?

I would never ever touch remoulds, at least buy budget new ones. You have 4 small bits of rubber between your family and a wall so always buy the best you can, don't have to be expensive ones but at least buy new.

IMO YOU ARE PLAYING WITH YOUR CAR/LIFE IF YOU GET REMOULDS!
i wouldnt bother!
save for decent tyres, at least if you push it, you know they are sound!
If you have alloys and lowered, you know you will push it!!!!

I waited and got (falken) FK451 on rear and FK452 at the front (the rears look nicer and i only just found them)....slightly more expensive but worth it.....
2 x451 £143 delivered. worth saving for 4.........

even cheaper budget tyres than these are better than remould.......
remoulds:no:

I'll have to dig out the pic I have somewhere of a remould tyre, where the original sidewall is showing through the peeling remould rubber... Very unnervng pic!

Although it's true that a lot of lorries, coaches etc use remoulds (think how many lorry tyres you see scattered at the side of the road tho!), by the time you're spending the cash a good remould costs, you're already within the budget price bracket!!

At the end of the day part worns are just tyres someone else has considered as not good enough to run anymore....although a million times better that remoulds (IMO) 5-6mil over the legal requirement wont last long if it is a soft compound.
Those tyres i found on mytyres are budget tyres and pro wont be rated very highly in rain conditions for example.... (i think there is a chart on there if a tyre has been tested, and it tells you how it performed in wet, snow, dry etc.)
i would wait and spend a min of £70 a corner for wheels of that size....at least you will get some quality. it really does come down to how much you value staying on the road mate!

cheers sam, yep you are right enough!!!
motorbike tyres last month cost me a whopping £200 for what will last 3000 miles if im lucky, then to buy 4 car tyres the next month... tends to get the wife on your back... so i looked at the cheaper alternatives. in order to try and get my new wheels on sooner.

But you are right mate, better to wait and get some decent rubber....
my mate works for motorway tyres and can get good deals if you put it on their store card with 0% for 6 months, but i would rather pay cash on the day.

or they would never get paid lol..

Those lowered springs don,t half make a huge difference thou eh!!
