My Suspension Dilemma

Hi Gents,

I have a Leon TDI with a large sound system which I use in competitions... There are extra batteries etc in the boot which means the back end sits very low with all the weight...

I'd like to improve the handling with a suspension kit, but full adjustable coilovers are a bit overkill really... I don't have that kinda money...

If I change the springs and/or shocks, the back is gonna get even lower and start rubbing...

What can I get to drop the front about 30mm, and stiffen up the rear end, but not lower it any more?

Cheers

I didn't know you'd gone SPL mate :p You don't need loads of batteries for an SQ system ;)

All depends on the budget Koni FSD's seem popular and you can pick and mix springs e.g. Eibach etc

If you can mix and match, is it possible to fit the Leon Cupra R springs (-15mm) on the rear and some Eibachs or similar on the front?

SQ? Not a chance

bet that combination will handle nice

Yeah its far from ideal, but jsut trying to make the best of it I can

Mix and match sounds good, something very stiff but still with a drop on the back, then some regular springs on the front...

Looking at a budget of a couple of hundred squid at the most really... :)

what about relocatting some of the weight?

If you stiffen up / limit the travel on the rear suspension you will have a horribly oversteering car

I'm afraid theres no way to relocate the weight, thanks for the suggestion though...

I would not skimp on brakes or suspension, in my eyes a few hundred ££ may pay for labour for suspension to be fitted and alignment but isn't enough for a decent solution......why not wait till you have saved a little more?

It's the old adage buy cheap and pay twice

I am on a budget here... £200 is reasonable but £400 for coilovers is excessive for my needs...

You fitting these yourself? It might cost £200 to get it done for you (if you get fronts as well as backs).

As a short term solution you could buy some of them bits that fit in your rear springs to make them higher (think adjustable delivery packs). Caravan shops sell em. It will probably knacker your shocks more quickly so i'd start saving for some proper coilovers (i think there's some 2nd hand in the for sale bit).

The problem is, try telling your insurance company what your planning, they'll tell you to run and jump.

I wouldn't mix and match at all, just asking for trouble. If you're on that short a budget, why not just go for anti-roll bars?

lol...joke don't ban me..

just leave suspension or save up...you skimp on things and it'll bite back,

how about taking different route:

uprated ARB's?

lol post above beat me to suggestion..lol
