My Steering wheel is squeeking!?

Hmm, weird one this, but my steering wheel appears to be squeeking. Its not consistant, but certainly weird. I've tried the wheel in different positions, and it does it regardless of it being locked in place or not.

Would it be safe to spray a wee bit of wd40 under the little leather flap that covers the mechanism, or is this not advisable?

Any ideas?

Yeh, I get this too - from time to time would be interested in finding out what it is...

If your adamant its the steering wheel it'll be heat expansion at a guess.

If not, it may be your suspension top mount bearing is knackered. This happened to mine. Made a horrible squeak when the steering wheel passed the neutral position. Top mount is about £20 with £40-60 labour

My steering wheel creaks as well. It's definitely caused by the hot weather and I think it's the plastic steering column surround expanding.

I mentioned it at the last service but as it was a cool morning it wasn't creaking then so they couldn't do anything. I then discovered that the brand new Ibiza courtesy car I was loaned was doing exactly the same thing so I guess it's a design fault.

My Ibiza's steering wheel used to squeak in the hot weather too, very irritating !

You just need to drive on very straight roads :fool:

Ah cool, aslong as its not just me!

Yeah its annoying, but if the weathers hot, my windows are down - so the chug of my lump will drown it out anyhow =D

Use aircon instead, the drag on the car with windows open is similar on fuel consumption to the aircon

Aircon is fine for motorways, but when nipping into town, windows will always go down.

I spend 10 hours a day in an air conditioned building, The more fresh air i get - the better [B)]
