My DSG gearchanges feels 'lumpy' today

Hi,

I noticed this morning, and again this afternoon that my DSG gearchanges were not as smooth as usual. The car feels like it is lurching during gearchanges at low speed. Could this be a fault? Clutch problem? The best way I can describe the feeling is that it felt like the clutches were completely opening at times, rather than blending in order to change gear.

Having gone thru the starting problem when the car was new, I really hope things are not going wrong again

I was thinking that maybe the engine is getting 'clagged' up with always running at 650 - 1500 rpm (the revs that the auto mode seems to like in 'D' I ran it for a bit in Sport mode to see if it needs a good run.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Ian

I'd get it checked, not had any Ibiza DSG issues as yet but its best to get these things looked at early on just in case.

Thanks mate. I have joked since the engine fault that my car that I will probably need a new gearbox soon. I must say if there is a fault its a big 0 for Seat reliability :(

I doubt it would need a new box whatever happens, The DSG unit is an overengineered bit of kit and their reliability is quite amazing. Should be more solid than a manual box as you've removed the human element for things to go wrong, so better speed matching on changes and less stress overall on the gearbox.

It may just be a software problem and the car may need reflashing etc.

I noticed the same sort of problem after I hadn't driven the car for a few days. I put it down to the car being cold and not being used. It seems to have sorted itself out. I'll keep an eye on it and let you know.

I agree that the DSG is almost "too much" for the 1.6 engine - constantly changing gears up and down takes a bit of getting used to!

Ian - did you notice if at the same time the 1st and 2nd gear ratios were much longer? I thought it was right but it seems a very occassion problem.

Hi,

You mean it stayed in 1st and 2nd gears for a longer time? I think so yes. Also when I got to work yesterday the car was idling at 1000rpm, and I could not make it drop back to the normal 650. Once stopped and restarted it was fine.

Yes Ian, same as me...to be honest I'm thinking about selling my Ibiza after only 5 months........thinking about trading up to an Audi S3 or the new Golf R32 depending on what my local dealer comes back to me with!
