MPG figures?

I need a new car. I drive a thirsty old (cough) mondeo at the moment and need a more fuel efficient car.

I love the stylings and think this will be my next car of choice. Maybe the 1.9 or 2.0TDI stylance.

BUT just wondering how close the SEAT published MPG figures are to real life?

I drive 96% of the time on motorways, if i were to set the cruise control, for expample to 80mph, what sort of real MPG would i be likely to get? Does if differ alot from the SEAT spec?

i would apriciate any information all you leon owners might have

I've got a 2L TDi sport and I've done about 1400 miles in it now, around 800 of those were made up of several 200 mile motorway trips. I'm getting just over 50 mpg out of it on the motorway, averaging around 70mph. And I've never got less than an average of 46mpg to a tank.

I use to drive some thirsty cars where 17-20mpg was good going, so I have learned how to drive cars gingerly to get good mpg out of them.

I'd be hoping for at least 45 mpg combined from the FR tdi

I only average 39-40 mpg at present in mine, mixture of motorway and spirited and gentle driving.

If you just did 80mph on motorway I guess you'd average about 43 MPG.

How do,

Ive had mine for 21000 miles now. I average 48mpg out of my 2.0tdi sport. The best I have had is 63mpg but that was travelling at 50mph for about 40miles behind a lot of lorries on the A75. On the moterway at 80 with the cruise set I get about 50mpg.:D

I get an average of around 36-44 on normal roads depending on how I drive. I tend to do more spirited driving because I hardly drive the car during the week, only on weekends. However I have done lots of trips up north and average anything from 50-54mpg when doing 70-80mph.

If your doing motorway journeys then TDI would suit you perfectly!.

The Mileage on the clock seems important. On my 1.9 cupra I was averaging 42 mpg when I first got it. then after 15,000 it was around 45 now ater 30,000 its settled in at aound 48. same mix of drving and still enjoying hoofing it:)

The quoted fiures for the new 2.0 tdi engine are lower than the old 1.9 tdi (47 cf 52) which is interesting.

I havnt the fogiest idea as too why diesels take so long to bed in but its something many owners talk about and seems to be true:confused:

BTW the new more powerful 2.0 petrol engine is qouted at 36 compared to 33 for the old 1.8t. be interseting to hear how their mpg is doing. I used to average aound 28mpg out of my petrol cupra hence the move to the dark side.
cheers

Interesting you should say that. I am nearing 12,000 on mine and read various things about giving it some to losen the girl up...I am not sure what fuel the previous owner was using (ironically the previous owner was a SEAT garage owner/manager) but I have been using Shell Deisel Extra and on occassion some BP Ultimate so hopefully that has cleaned the engine and improved mpg. Wondering whether its worth putting some additives in to clean it out good...

I think 12k is nothing really in the life of a diesel engine. I cant imagine the fuel making a big difference as the PD engines have pretty sophistcated filters and engine management systems. I use diesel fuel mainly from tescos and sainsburys and go for the cheapest, (tight a*se that I am).
Never really thought about trying additives.

My 1.9TDI is now on 23000 miles, I'm getting a very consistant 42-43mpg covering mainly A roads, and 80-85mph motorway drives.

That figure is from a spreadsheet I run, but the onboard computer tries to tell me I'm on more like 45-46mpg.
