Mounting Roof Bars - puzzled!

Hey there,

Off on holiday in the Toledo in a couple of weeks. Bought a set of third party roofbars specifically for my model of car (Toledo - 00-04), however I cannot figure out how to fit them.

Removing the little plastic covers on the roof reveals nothing more than 2 gaps in the black strip running along the car exposing the blue roof metal - no fixing holes or anything.

My instructions for the roof bars suggest a hole into which I should be able to screw something.

Has anyone fitted roofbars here successfully that can point me in some kind of direction?

best

Sounds like this is my problem, there is nothing below the cover, and I'm not going to be paying 130 for Seat bars!

Sounds like the back seats are coming down!

Thanks for your help.

Try Thule Roof Bars, they fit by clamping in above the doors. Have a set for an 02 Lean and they work fine, wish I had spent extra on the aero bars as they don't half whistle when you are trying to make a channel crossing!

I've got the Seat Leon aero bars (which are made by Thule!) and they still whistle at any speed!! For some reason the dealer decided I'd want them fitted to the car when I collected it.......

Biggest advantage of aero bars is that you can buy other Thule stuff designed to slot into the channel in the top once you've removed the rubber strip. I use Thule mountain bike carriers on mine and they're so easy to fit with no risk of bits of metal landing on the roof when you're fitting them!

From memory the roof bars sold by Thule as aftermarket parts are of the clamp variety, and the only ones you can get which screw into the threaded holes on the Leon's roof are the Seat branded ones.

Indeed, there's no threaded holes on my Toledo, which is what this kit looks like it was designed for.

It appears that the only way roofbars fit in these is that you place them in the hole and somehow expand the bars widthways in order that they grip the edges of the holes and thus cannot come out.

Seat list two part numbers for the Toledo 99-04 roof bars.

1M0071126 for cars up to chassis number 1MYB051340 (£83.99)

1M5071126 for cars after 1MYB051341 (£129.99)

Sounds like you need the later (and pricier bars). It's also worth noting that neither of these will fit a Leon.

Simon.

Thanks for that.

These are good bars but don't fit so I'll be selling them for £30. If anyone has a Toledo with the screw fit they should fit.

Thanks for your help.
