MOT Prep 2: Ignition problem. No final turn fire

The main problem i have which is currently preventing me for completing an MOT is that i am the only person who can start my Ibiza. When turning the key the usual first stages happen but the final turn to start the car fails. The relay clicks as usual but the only way the car will fire is if i reach around the rear of the ignition barrel and press hard on the left hand side of the connector.

I need to know how to rectify this fault as nobody can start the car, the strange thing is that once i stop applying pressure the car is fine and doesnt cut out like i would expect if the connection was poor from the loom.

Is this common and has anybody experienced this?
Many thanks

i pick up a new loom from the bay but there is some serious work involved. it seems like its internal in the barrel but im not fimiliar with the internal parts. I would have thought if it was the connection then once pressure was release the car would stop like if turning the key back and breaking the switch.

Its currently preventing me from getting MOT. Its been 5weeks since i last drove it and so far eaten about £600. With all the money spent im thinking of cashing in. With and MOT and the little faults rectified its got so much life left in it.

I had exactly the same issues with mine around a year ago. It's the ignition switch failing. Got a new one from GSF for around £15 and fitted it myself. You need to remove the steering wheel/air bags etc. to get to the screw holding it in, but not a difficult job. Took me around 2 hours.
