My car just failed it's MOT on brakes and apparently new discs and pads are needed all round?

Here's the details from the certificate:

001 - Front (both on inside edges) brake discs excessively pitted
002 - Rear (both) brake disc excessively scored

As a result, I've got to try and get this sorted within the next 14 days for a reduced re-test.

Or, should I get a second opinion, as they reported the same problem on the front discs last year without failing it.

What do people think, as I'm not sure what to do at the moment?

:wtf:

You should have fixed it last year when they gave you the observation really.

but brake discs are so easy to swap out, it's worth doing asap

As for replacements, putting cheap stuff on the rear should be ok, but was looking to use Ferodo discs and pads on the fronts?

What about brake fluid, any recommendations?

FYI - The car is remapped, so needs something better than standard.

advise.. on a budget
Brembo plain disks ~£25+vat each front, £15-20+vat each rear
ds2500's front £73+vat
motul is £8.99+vat/500ml bottle (2-3 bottles for full bleed)
Rear pads £15-£20+vat for OE spec

dot 5.1 will be less hygroscopic but does'nt neccessarily make for better dry boiling point than a Dot 4 for example.

So long as its fresh, been foil sealed it should be fine

brakes allow a person to stop........stopping helps if you dont want to crash. dont put them off mate. small price to pay for your own life or even someone elses........

careful i was almost conned into this with flamin vauxhall, some MOT stations give you a free second opinion. As they wanted £450 + labour + vat which was for 4 new calippers, 4 new brake disks and pads! i took the pads off and they were fine, the disks were slighly lipped but decent working order

Exactly, this is my concern.

Personally, now this is just my opinion, the front pads are the only thing that actually need replacing.

I've just got off the phone to them and they want £189.53 for the front discs and pads fully fitted and £146.97 for the rear discs and pads fully fitted. Giving me a grand total of £336.50.

Now if it needs to be done, then it needs to be done, but I just don't want to be taken for a ride.
