Hi all,

Well my trusty old 2002 TDI Toledo 110 had its MOT on Saturday and got through OK..

I happened to notice the Diesel Emissions test as the bloke did it out side with some kind of wireless link to the kit inside.

It was 0.93 something's, not sure of the units !!

Well considering the motor has done 153k miles I was wondering if this figure is good, or close to thel limit etc ?

Anyone know what this means ?

Ta.

From a previous thread of mine.....

A turbo diesel have a pass rate at 3.00ppm and non turbo at 3.50ppm. They now have the fast pass which is set at 1.50ppm because most modern cars have a clean burn engine

Mine got 0.72 last year & 0.55 on Friday.

I had a 1996 306 Dturbo with 160k on the clock. It had been tuned and managed to come away with a fast pass of 0.25 :)

I'd personally say 0.93 good pass, not as good as some, but better than a lot. If 3.00 is the limit then you're way underneath it, so no worrries. :)

I ragged mine before taking it in & they did the MOT straight away, hence why I'm thinking I got lower figures on my 2nd MOT

Thanks for the info Chris..

I did actually notice the words "Fast Pass" on the screen, interesting..

So what keeps the emissions down, Have read many things..

1) Thrashing the thing to clear out the soot now and again ?
2) Turning down the EGR using VAGCOM ? I have done this as per recommendation on TDI Club FAQ.
3) Regular oil changes ? (Sure I read this somewhere).

Anyway, sound like I have no worries with a reading of 0.93 then.

Turning down the EGR ?

What side effects will this have ? Any links ?

I just read lots about the intake and variable vane turbo's sooting up and stopping working properly..

The Guy's at the TDI Club recommend turning it dowm to prevent soot, so I did !!

Lots written about it on the SeatCupra forums to.

The only slight side effect that I have noticed is that the car does take a tiny bit longer to warm up, but it is hardly noticeable.

I think it just recycles less 'spent' air and more fresh stuff.

Its actually 3.0 ppm for turbo 2.50 ppm for non-turbo

mine had its first MOT last september and to be honest it only just scraped through (average about 2.8 I think, 2nd reading was actually over 3). I hope its down to the fact that I naively thought it would sail through and I didn't;

a)change/clean the crapped up air filter
b)screw the nuts off it
c)put decent non-supermarket fuel in it
d)use a splash of millers

Hope its nothing to do with the remap I have on there (Upsolute). Although since taking the carbonio off and going back to a green cotton filter and large feed I have noticed it hardly smokes now when I boot it (compared to when I had the CAI on).
