Hi,
Similar to quite a few on this (very useful) forum, I have an annoying metallic rattle in a new Stylance 1.9 TDi. It started when the car was about a week old and is most audible in the driver's seat when going over wavy / bumpy roads, at anything from 20 mph up. The impression is that it's low down in the cabin. In the front passenger seat it's less noticeable, and is more or less inaudible in the rear seats. But we all know how difficult it is to place a noise source accurately.... It's not 'plastic' in nature, more like the damped 'jangle' from hitting two long steel rods together. Behind the dash seems ok.
I've padded the front jacking points, checked that the exhaust isn't fouling, the rear seat catches and the seat belt / pillar area (thanks to everyone out there!). I found that neither handbrake cable had been clipped into place, but that wasn't the problem. The heat shield is close to the floor pan around mid-cabin, but temporary padding didn't do the job. The only place where I've found anything close to the sound is in the rear passenger-side door - it jangles around the catch / outside handle area even on moderate vibration, but not loudly. Did someone mention that this was a 'standard' problem? BUT, I can't hear anything when sitting in the rear seats with the car being driven!! Could cabin acoustics be that odd?
I remember once having a similar noise in a new Ford - it turned out to be a tight track rod end. Has anyone had a groaning suspension part in a new Leon?
Sorry for the long post...
