hi guys fitted new front pads yesterday with no real probs , today i attempted to fit new rear shoes having never done them before i thought they looked quite complicated with all the springs & tyrin to remember where they go.having took the hub off i realise that i had not bought a new split pin with my shoes & so decided to keep theses shoes on until i bought pin, but first i wanted a go at seeing if i could take shoes off & put back on well having cojouled them off without releasing tight bottom spring i tried to put back on the same way while trying to get flange behind piston flange i knocked off rubber seal & out poppep the unit & a small spring acompanied by some brake fuid, i put everything back together & put car in garage but noticed i had no brake at all slightly spongy then nothin ,is this just typical of allowing air in the system ? how should i bleed the system ? any info would b appreciated.
i also noticed that on old brake shoes on car there is a bar mechanism running horizontally between the two shoes , my new shoes do not have this do i just fit the one that on the car?
thanks

sounds like you need to fit a new wheel cylinder (the bit where you popped the piston out of), you then need to fit new shoes, I would check that you have got the right ones, there are two sizes for the Ibiza 180mm (without ABS) and 200mm (with ABS).

Once you have done that, you then need to bleed the entire braske system (inc fronts).

Probably easier to just take it to a garage.....

that's lucky.... consider replacing them, once they've popped they rarely seal perfectly.

get a bleed kit from any motor factor / halfords

BUT DO NOT DRIVE UNTIL YOU HAVE BLED IT PROPERLY

well today i bled rear brakes (was all thatwas needed) cylinder fine, proceeded to change rear shoes - when i took them off & placing springs in new shoes i noticed pushrod wouldnt fit & realised that new shoes were too big- there must be 2 different sizes for 1.4 97 ibiza or some thing?
not sure where to measure shoes from but from start of actual brake material to end of brake material(not metal) is 180mm & width 36mm i may add these are also too wide for my car the handbrake lever is also thicker on these than ones on car.

see my earlier post, ref the 180mm shoes and 200mm shoes ;)

the dimension is the diameter of the brake drum itself, and not the size of the friction material on the shoe. So your '180' is different to the 180mm I'm referring to.

Like I said, got a set in the garage if you need 'em ;)
