more electric window problems...

Spent the last couple of hours trawling through the forums & cant find a solution. Its an 01 Arosa, I got it a couple of weeks ago with no manual.

Drivers side window goes down but not up.

Got a new motor/regulator,
tested it by plugging into passenger's side - works fine (and the old one -£57.50 AAARGHH)

swapped the connections at the back of the switches to make sure switch is ok...

Generally arsed about all weekend with it, to no avail. Read somewhere about 'relays' and stuff ? ?? ??

btw, I bought the Arosa as a second car for 'her indoors'. I keep giving her my car to drive so I can zip about in the 1 ltr wonder - its ****ing great !

works out the car ? when you say tested opposite side it works but out of the car ?

out the car there is no load so it could be a tired worn motor or even a rough channel

try some duckoil/wd40 in teh rubber runner channel and make sure glass runs smoothly

yup, works out of car on passenger side, but not out of car on drivers side - only down.

I'm thinking there's maybe some kind of safety cut-out for if you get your fingers trapped - dunno, I'm guessing really.

Thanks...

As Flapper said, put some wd40 or silicone grease in the runners. :)

There is a safety system which stops the window from closing if something is in the way (like a finger) - unfortunately this also kicks in if the runners get sticky.

Thanks, but its not the runners. I took a proved working motor off the regulator so its basically running under no load at all - it only goes down not up.

Also found that pushing the switch for 'up' - makes it go down, as well as pushing the switch for 'down' makes it go up (wtf?) Definitely not the switch either - I double checked today.

Need a wiring diagram - Haynes dont make a manual, would an 01 Lupo be the same?

I'd be interested to know anything you can tell me about the safety feature - maybe theres a fault there??

Driving me nuts this is, and ruining my handyman credibilty with my wife. If I fix it, I'll be in for a magnificent BJ. hehe.
