Modifying the Mk 5 cupra

Now that i have finally recieved my new ibiza cupra, i cant wait to start doing some mods. Problem at the moment is that there arnt many performance parts available that i can find, probably due to the car being new.

Decided to get a revo remap because of this, which will add 30 bhp instantly, but then i read about their stage 2 remap which they say is for exhaust, manifold, intercooler mods; which i plan on doing anyway. they said i would have to purchase the stage 2 remap at full price at a later date if i got the stage one remap today and then added these bolt on performance parts and wanted stage 2 tuning.

Ive decided to go for a full exhaust system, does anyone know of any companies that do this for the mk 5. Also does anyone know what the manifolds are like in the mk5 in terms of performance and layout(4-2-1?) and would it be that benificial to replace them. As far as thickness of the exhaust itself, ive read that 1.5-2" is about right for a 1.2 to 2l engine, is that correct for a twincharged 1.4 too?

cheers for any help on this

No, the 7 speed dsg in the ibiza can handle 250nm and with software (smoother shifts) it can handle 300nm. (which is the 210ps provided by a remap) The DSGs used from audi are; 1) the six speed dsg which handles 350nm (500nm with software) and 2)
the new 7 speed dsg which can handle 550nm (its now only used by audi.)

Hi lucifer666 congrats on a superb purchase , my boc been fantastic so im sure you will be having lots of fun:D As for the exhaust i spoke to milltek just before xmas and they said they are on final testing for one on cupra/boc and will be available around feb/march, and would prob be a cat back one. at the time the guy i spoke to wasn't sure of exit size etc, so we will have to wait and see[B)]

cheers mate, bit frustrating at the moment though because of running the engine in and all, cant wait to give it some stick. After writing the post yesterday i spent the night looking on the net and i found a millteck turbo back exhaust system designed for the 170bhp golf gt mk5 1.4tsi. Apparently with a superchips remap it gave 225bhp. Just wondering if you knew if this would work, i always assumed(correct me if im wrong) that the gt engine was identical to this one.

the thing about 'tuning' cars is - the engine is the last thing you should do. if you lighten it, make it stop quicker, handle better, it goes quicker. then, when the car can handle more power, tune the engine a bit. i passed an Astra turbo on the track with at least 3 times the power of my Arosa, because the Astra wouldn't slow down or go round corners. now i have a new Cupra, i am working on an air filter mod that means the factory air box will take a big cone cotton filter, and i got a full exaust custom (2 1/4") made the day after delivery, + i fitted TT grooved discs and Morgan Aero pads!

That DSG is really gonna hate a stage 2 map mate. Be careful.

An engine remap and DSG remap would be nice. Especially if it makes manual mode completely manual (as in it wont auto shift up for you).

Had a chat with M1 autos today and asked about chipping the boca/cupra. They say they will have a chip upgrade within the next month or two. When asked what power they are looking at producing I was told anywhere from 250 - 300bhp!!!!! I asked about the box too and was told there will be no problem with it. Personally I am a little sceptical about it but let's see when it happens and who is brave enough to have it done. I was told the warranty would still be honoured so I guess if you have it done and the box goes they will replace it hehehehehehehee. Next thing to know also is what SEAT would be charging for this upgrade..................

No offense to them or anything but he's talking crap.

APR have done extensive testing on the DSG and the amount of torque it can realistically take.

Revo have 99ron map for the 170bhp scirocco which goes up to around 215. I think that will be your max on the cupra as well.

The figures they have quotes sound more realistic for a stage one 2.0TSI remap (250bhp) and a stage 2/3 (300bhp) remap.

The twin charged 1.4 is got gonna make that power AT ALL! :)

Are you sure they told you about the Ibiza cupra ?? As mardon said these are for the leon cupra with the 6 speed DSG. No 1.4 TSi can produce over 220ps with the stock turbo.

I'm desperate for Revo to officially release the map for the Seats derivative of the 1.4tsi

anyone have any news on when this will be available?or is it already?

Slightly worrying all this talk of the dsg's limit etc...but...to hell with it

It is available. A friend remmaped his cupra about a month ago I drove it and i was impressed by the power. It has some lag at very low rpm (below 2k) but it is not so noticeable. It has much better acceleration but the esp kicks in even with 3rd gear !!

Like I said, they told me that ans we were talking about the boca. Like I said, i also seriously doubted what he was saying as I also personally think that 215bhp would be max or 220 at a serious push.

Sounds good but first I think I'll turn my attention to a little bit of weight saving and improving the handling then use engine software/hardware upgrades as the icing on the cake :)

I dont see why there would be any more lag than normal. The remap only alters the ignition timings and turbo boost etc. The supercharger is not effected. Maybe because the surge of power is greater it just felt like more lag. I read on the scirocco forum that the boost from 5-7k feels a little like vtec.

Sounds pretty cool.

I wonder how quick the cupra/bocanegra would be revo'd with a milltek exhaust and with some modification done to the cars breathing.

I am used to my fr which has power from 1200. The stock cupra provides its torque from 2000 and with revo at 2500. Thats why it creaated some lag but as i said it was not annoying. I noticed it when i was using the paddles, had 3rd gear and 1800-1900 rpm and i tried to accelerate. But as soon as it hits 3k rpm.....:D:rolleyes::happy:

I didn't know that about the different power band on the FR and Cupra. I'm surprised since I thought it would just be the top end peak power which was affected by the turbo not the lower down power before the turbo spools up. Wonder if there are any other mechanical differences?

I wouldn’t think an air filter and less restrictive exhaust would make a huge difference unless the map was changed to suit. Without this the car’s throttle response should be better with possibly a few BHP extra. I would imagine the new exhausts system will be lighter than standard also.

As mentioned a few times the DSG is certainly a concern when adding more and more power. The gearbox is a sealed unit so changing the clutch plates will be no easy feat and will cost may £££’s if it goes prematurely just because you’ve added a few ext lb/ft of torque.
