Hi, why did they drop the temperature gauge in the MK5 Ibiza ?, i like to have one just to make sure the engine is warm enough to throttle up and also to make sure it's not overheating. But the mk5 has lost it's temp gauge.

I have the temp readout on my scangaugeII so it's not of particular concern to me, i was just curious as to why they dropped it ?

Best Regards,
Andy

Not sure, but a fair few cars don't have it any more... our Mitsi Colt doesn't

I imagine the ECU controls what the car is allowed to do on warm up anyway, and should the engine overheat through some mechanical failure (like thermostat) I'm hoping a warning light will tell me - what does the manual say?

If it's like the new shape Astra's the computer will not let you rev the engine above 2.5k when cold and gradually allows more revs as the engine warms up. Also if coolant temps reach 100 deg c a light and warning sound tell you.

The light has never come on even with hours of ticking over/crawling along in traffic

I personally like lots of gages but times move on I s'pose.
