Mk4 Ibiza cupra 1.8t misfire

Good evening guys,
My problem started this afternoon, came off motorway and engine malfunction light started flashing- then heavily misfiring at idle and under acceleration, light stayed on, then went off, flashed again ,stayed on, then off, as if a cycle is occurring, tried checking obvious, loose plugs etc, I've ordered a vag reader but will not arrive till next week, it is a 2006 Ibiza cupra 1.8t 56000miles, have the coil pack issues not been resolved by this year? Also I cannot find evidence of spark plugs being changed. I'm a hgv tech myself so diesels are my forte but it's definitely running on 3 cylinders!
So my questions are this,
1. Are there still issues with coil packs?
2.what premium spark plugs can you recommend?
3. Has anyone else had issues with a similar age/mileage 1.8t
Cheers in advance
Mj

Hey MJ, I know this post is old but anyway.

I have a 2006 seat ibiza cupra, 53k on the clock. They do still have issues with the old coil packs, corroding and causing missfires. I swear I had mine do it before on a cold start up but cleared after I reset the ECU prob the coils playing around...odd. Only had the car 3 months. Anyways I went to seat toget my aircon regassed and they said your car is eligible for recall...new coil packs. They got recalled from november 2011 as it was a repeating problem with mk4 1.8t. So had a nice surprise when I went in of free £120 coils, so if you have not been to a stealer yet I'd go and ask mate and your probably owed them. Also I'd recommend NGK premium plugs, seem to work nicely, sure boschh are just as good though :) Car has run sweet as a nut since new coils, part from a dodge cam belt but thats because of the crappy garage I bought it off not understanding how a tensioner works :p

Hope that helps.

My car is an 07, but after speaking to Seat there said there is no recall for coil packs on mine. it is also 1.8 T FR. Mine randomly decides not to start, just makes one click when the key is turned, it can do this 4 times before it decides to fire. Starter motor is good, tried both keys (in case of transponder issue), so was thinking of investigating the coil pack..... mine only has 15,000 miles on
