MK4 Golf Callipers

Has anyone tried this mod ?!?

The Mk2/3 Golf guys are recommending this mod for anyone who's suffering from a seized caliper !!!

Apparently, because the Mk4 Golf Calipers are alloy, and they have the 'spring' mechanism internally, they are far less prone to seizing.

The only problem, is that the Mk4 caliper needs 'banjo' style fitments on the hoses.

C&R sell hoses specifically for this.

I've also found a thread on VW Vortex, where they've found that '99 Passat rear hoses fit the Mk4 calliper etc. So I've emailed my local VW Dealer to see if they can supply the hoses. (P/N for the hoses is: 8E0 611 775 J)

The Mk4 calipers fit the Mk2 mountings. You can also use Mk2/3/4 pads and discs apparently.

Seeing as my off-side rear calliper is seized, I'm going to try and source some Mk4 calipers from a local scrappy !!! ;)

Thoughts/comments on the subject much appreciated !!!

Cheers Rob ;)

Have found out a price for the brake lines from VW - £15.56 ea. inc vat ;)

Just need to find some callipers now!

Can't you just adjust the rear brake bias-valve to reduce the balance of the brakes, therefore combating the increased effectiveness of the new calipers? (or am I being thick!)

You could adjust the rear bias (a) if you have one (I have so this is an option open to me but may not be to others) and (b) if you have enough reduction still to play with in the valve - mine is actually set pretty far reduced as it is with std brakes

Hopefully, I've just acquired a set of rear calipers, discs and pads from an Octavia vRS ;)

Will have to ditch/sell the discs with them being 5-stud (anyone need some Leon rear discs?!?)

and then buy a set of conversion hoses from Stealth for £30.

Will keep you all posted how I get on with it ;)

thread from the past..... lol ;)

found out that the vRS callipers are the 256mm vented ones, same as the LCR, and won't fit the Cordy.

swapped them for a set of 232mm Leon ones.... and have only just picked them up off m0rk last night!!! lol

totally forgot about them !!!

Just to add to this thread in case anyone wants to do this in future...

The Leon Cupra carriers are not suitable for the Ibiza/Cordoba, but the calipers bolt onto the standard carriers on the car already. So don't worry about buying the carriers as you don't need them ;)

Goodridge do a Mk2 golf - Mk4 caliper conversion hose kit and they bolt on spot on.

As for rear bias, well in my case I may not have to worry too much about that as the LCR brembos up front should balance it out :D

you would have to have them on the wrong side too then.
as they would only fit to the inside,so upside down and on the wrong side, its actually harder to fit them wrong :)
