Is it true to say that seat have made a bit of a boo boo with the Cupra 1.8T ( not TDi). Looking at the seat used cars it appears there are even pre reg'd ones on there with just 300 miles up for £9995. Seems like SEAT are the only ones to blame for this as i have seen the 1.8T version in no mags, no tests.

When you consider it has 180 bhp standard and all the other kit, seems like it should have got more press coverage. Seems the cupra in this instance wa well and truly eclipsed by the FR 1.8T.

bargain of a car if you are looking for one though.

I've seen a couple of reviews of the petrol Cupra but like the one linked here they have been a bit lukewarm.

The feeling seems to be that it doesn't give any real improvement in performance or driving enjoyment over the TDi to compensate for the worse economy. The Cupra also misses out on some goodies and options, such as remote radio controls and xenons, which are available on the FR.

honestly, id say the PD has taken over in the mk4, I'm personally not a fan of the mk4, but i can vouch for redcupratdi, its fast and not much point in getting the petrol when they advertise the 0-62 speed as 0.4 seconds difference!

oh yeah i know, you are preaching to the choir here.

There is still a massive difference in driving style though. I still think overall if you want proper quick driving the 1.8T is where its at, although this weks commuting to work by car will cost me £35 as opposed to my normal £70 train ticket, by the end of the week i will have clocked up 800 miles, not bad for one weeks ownership!!.

seems a shame, as the 1.8t is a nice version but tdi stole the thunder due to that lump in the front

I think the insurance group rating might be a factor as well. FR TDi is group 8. FR 1.8 20V T is group 12. Both Cupras are group 15. That makes the FR TDi stand out as a bit of a bargain.

Low insurance did it for my on my TDi tbh... I thought to myself either get the 1.9TDi FR thats pretty quick, or get a 1.2 petrol and basically pay the same!

Hmm.....!?

...and the TDI Sport 130 was even lower, Gp 7 - a real bargain. By the way, mine's for sale :D
