is anyone running an open air filter on the 20vt?? iv noticed when i take the cover and air feed off my dynatwist the filter seems to pull the Maf and connecting pipe down and i looks really unstable ( ie the filter moves about). has anyone had this problem?

iv made a heat shield out of stainless steel to go around the filter and iv got a cold air feed, it just the filter seems to move about , im just wondering if anyone with a mk3 or mk4 has the same problem, as iv noticed a few people do run open filters

Ive tied mine up to the strut brace until i find a new jubile clip so i can re fit the case and cold air feed pipe. It does make a quality sound though with the casing off doesnt it:D

where do you get your cold air feed on the mk4 ibiza engine bay?
Through the intake at the front of the engine. Its more or less right behind the grill at the top on the left hand side.

cant see why anyone would want to run an open filter, just pulls in all the hot air from the engine bay?!

because on the Mk4 20vt's they run a lot better with the cover off.

One method EVO is to leave the standard air box in, the bottom part and rest the open cone on that, that way is shielded partly from engine heat and also still has the cold air intake. If you had enough time and were not worried about cutting your airbox about then you could always make up a proper mount on the box.

I did a post on this very subject last year. it is strange as to why it runs a lot better with the cover off.

So do you recomend that i run my dynatwist with the cover off, even with the heat of the engine, i would prefer a bit more noise as a side benefit

iv run my dynatwist in the past without the cover on and i havent noticed any difference whats so ever, only the noise which sounds great. im going to try what ant says and rest the filter on the bottom part of the air box. Cheers ANT
