MK3 KO3 / KO4 in a MK2

Sorry to bring the subject up yet again, but ive just got a new 'job' for the year and the idea has arrisen again as the possibilities to do this have increased.

Ive searched but not found a definite reason to my question.

Why do people fit the KO3 turbo'd engine into the mk2 as opposed to the KO4.?
am i right in thinking the KO3 is the 156bhp version? and the KO4 the 225?

If i did it, id be wanting to bolt ideally the engine to my 2L 16V box therefore retaining the whole drive train.

After discussing with a mechanic mate of mine, hes told me that the blocks on the KO3d engine and KO4 are the same and therefore should mate up. With this said, i dont understand why people would opt for the KO3.

In one of the threads i searched and found it said ' it would be a lot more work' but why?

Genuine questions here so please dont reply if its just going to be a 'why dont you just buy a mk3' or whatever. Im genuinely interested in the KO4d engine going into my car.
(Were putting a bike engine into a mini at work and this is what has inspired me... tho my boss is trying to convince me to put 2 in the back of the ibiza :D )

cheers mark... i was going to PM you but thought id 'put it out there' Ron Burghandy stylee.

So what you are saying is that the engine will definitely mate up with my 16V gearbox, but the engine itself is a bit close to the other bits in there...

If thats the case then itll be on my 'to do' list i think... im sure if we can sort a bike engine in a mini with mid mounted brakes and all round wishbones, we can arrange it so the turbo doesnt interfere with the steering rack :D

EDIT: Cheers for the link too mark, just seen that. We can build custom exhausts and manifolds at work so it shouldnt be a problem to sort it out if thats what the hassle will be

yeah, it'll stick on your 02A gearbox fine. just use an Ibiza 20VT rear mount, and the rest should be your ibiza ones.

pipework will entertain you for hours

The main issues with fitting the k04 is the downpipe, the oil return, intercooler pipework and the rear water lines.

It can be done. Ive just done it. If you go ahead then i can help you with the oil and water lines and give you some tips. There is also a downpipe on the market that will do the job.

super thanks for that...
The company im working for build kit cars and tune cars and do one offs, so custom work is just part of everyday work so it shouldnt be too much of a problem...

you dont know what cars the ko4 engines are in do you?
So far ive discovered
A3 BAM engine code
TT BAM Engine code
Leon... unsure of engine code as of yet

Any difference in engine codes i should be looking out for?
Cheers
