Hiya,

I have an Amp + Sub fitted using my standard Ibiza HU, and its all been working fine.

Yesterday, I had my car serviced, so as usual, I took the 2 '25A' fuses from the back of the amp, and the cd cartridge out the changer, so they couldnt use my radio! (And blow the speakers!)

Anyway...

I put the fuses back in last night, and when I was playing a cd, I noticed the sound just drop out, then come back maybe 5 seconds later, then drop out etc, I thought it was the CD changer, as its happened once before, but when i'd change the cd it would fix it, this time it didnt!

So I thought it must be CD-related...But no, its happening even when listening to the radio!

I've replaced both fuses in the amp again with new ones, and still no joy, any idea what this could be guys?

:(

I could run VAG-COM on it, but would that show anything?

No mate, I did do a search and found someone noticed it at high volumes, but this is at any level, I usually only have it on about 16-20.

Could I have fried something in the amp when replacing the fuses? I did see a little spark but thats usual for when fuses are being put in.
Its a Sony X-Plode (I know I know but it was the cheapest for what I want it for!Im not into ICE much, just bare minimum!)
I did think maybe something in the fuse box might be blown but then what kind of thing would cause it to work on and off, as id assume it works or it doesnt!

Fuses are circuit breakers, your right in saying it would either work or it wouldn't...

As for it cutting out...have you ckecked wires? I am assuming you have the converter to run amp RCA's from speakers, have you fed off or disconnected rears? I knwo some peeps disconnect the rears, run the feed to the amp, then run the speakers off the amp, which seems a bit odd, but if you have a bad earth, your rear speakers would cut out.
However, from your description it sounds like all speakers are cutting out... maybe its similar to our high volume problem, only yours is a more potent then ours? I dunno why mine does it, seems odd. Try it with loud off see if it makes a difference? Have you adjusted the settings on the amp? The system may cut out if its too bassy or too higher treble for the low quality OEM speakers.

Sorry I can't be more helpful...

All speaker wires are fed to the amp, remote cable goes to HU, disconnected rear speaker wires also go to the amp.

Its been working fine for over a year prior to this.

I may check the cables later, but I didnt really move it to put the fuses in, which is why it seems so weird :(

All speakers cut out yea.

I've just bought a ibiza cupra and was wondering if i'd be able to use an amp with the standard HU. How did you hook up the amp to the stanard HU? Does the HU have RCA inputs? if so how many does it have.

Hi mate,

I bought an amp with hi level inputs, then disconnected the rear speaker wires, and fed them in to the amp to provide signal for the fronts as well (if that makes sense)
I then wired new wires from components at the front to the amp.
Then its just a case of wiring a remote cable from the head unit to the amp, and of course, the power cable from the battery to the HU.

Standard HU does not have RCA's.

Mate if the amp has a guarentee/warranty......take it back to where you bought it, or call sony direct.

Mate had this happen to his legacy amp 1800w, he's does alarms so opened it and a piece of solder fell out.......he found a transistor that had melted its solder.....quick piece of soldering and hey presto.......still going year later running 2 DB audio 12" subs....

UPDATE-

I found out whats wrong lol,

I checked under the bonnet earlier, where I'd fed the power cable to the battery, and guess what...

Some bright spark must moved it or pulled at it, where one end of the wire from the battery goes into the glass fuse thing, well, it had come loose! So I tightened it up and fitted the wire properly, and it works!

Definately something they did during the service though, probably pulled it loose by accident and just 'placed' it back together!

Fixed now though! :)
