MK3 Dilemma?

Guys & Gals,

I’m looking at purchasing a mk3 Ibiza Cupra, I used to own one and had to sell it due to my job. To be honest I wished I hadn’t and I’ve been wanting one again ever since, must be nearly three years now.

Anyway, I’ve seen one and the garage selling it has offered it to me with a discount, and either 12 months tax and MOT, OR have it revo tuned to 207bhp.

I need some opinions of you guys as to what you would choose. My worry is that if I go down the revo route then will the standard setup on the car and brakes cope with the upgrade, because at present I don’t have any pennies to improve the car, and I certainly don’t have a licence to print money either, Gordon Brown is being very selfish.

Or would you be sensible and take the tax and MOT, knowing the car is fully road legal for 12 months?

Cheers

You can remap it at a later date if you want to

I do need to give it some thought. If i put my sensible hat then i'm thinking of the Tax and MOT, but if i put on my teenagers hat then its saying Revo.

 i've got a while to think about it anyway.

brakes will suffer.

I went down the wrong route with my mods, get everything done then get it mapped, whether it be revo (generic) or a custom RR map. (jabba or cc stage 2)

Or get it remapped, and if the car turns out to need loads of other stuff, buy another MK3... swap ECU's?.... ;)

Still gonna save you pennies...

Well i'm going to view the car tomorrow, so i will keep you posted as to how it goes.

I'd like to think that it is immaculate and in good running order and well looked after, then i'd go for the Revo, but i'd be living in a dream world.

One thing that went one my first Cupra was the coilpacks. Is there any way of knowing if they've been replaced on this car? A batch number that is visible or something? It's for sale at a private garage not a SEAT one, so i think that they are not going to be able to answer that for me

I never replaced them on my first Cupra as it was done by Marshalls of Bedford at the time, so i've no idea what i'm looking for. Or is it just a case of me purchasing a new set myself and having them to hand just in case the go?

I would get the MOT & Tax as that together can cost about £200+ and if it fails the MOT it will be even more

You can get a remap anytime but if you dont have MOT or Tax you wont even be able to drive the car to make use of having the remap anyway

The standard cupras are still quick and will be ok until you get the remap, dont you think?

To be honest, I don't know any different. I was impressed with the Cupra's pace to start with and didin't have Revo then, so if I took the Tax and MOT on offer, then I know I won't be disappointed with the performance.

The more i think about it the more my mind is made up.

I think its one of those things where you know what i best but you have other things niggling away! Its easy to get the things that is enjoyable but sometimes you have to be sensible

I could have bought my suspension last month and missed out on my Service but the Service was far more important, you know?

Get him to do the T&T then ask him if he'll split the cost of the revo, he is trying to sell the car at the end of the day :)

Well when i go to see it, i'll see what the guy has to offer. I've spent most of this morning searching through old topics to find the things to look out for when buying one second hand.

I've come up with quite a good list. There are some things on there that I would never have thought to look at.

I never did go to look at that cupra, however i have seen another one available and possibly looking to p/x my car if things go to plan, but after speaking with the guy, the car doesn't come with any Service History as it was previously owned by a company. Should i steer clear, only i'm thinking that if i ever come to sell it due to family constraints or financial issues, is it going to be hard to sell because of the lack of servicing?

Its an unusual car to be a company car?? Likely to be harder to seel just depends if your gona keep it a while i mean if you keep it 5 years its better to have 5 recent years history than the first five years of the cars life. You could also get in contact with the company to verify the guy and also to see if they will give you the history (I find it odd that they would hold it back)

I've been informed that it was a company car used by one person, but a "pool" car as such, used by employees that needed a car to use at the time
