Bought My Cupra in Oct 07' as a completly stock 75,000 mile car, Silver, Y plate 01'. With intentions of building a fast road car, that has to cope with the daily commute from Reading to London 65 miles a day.. With the intention of some light track work too.. So a bit of everyting!!
First of i bought a stage 3 SPEC clutch from Alex at TT along with a lightweight single mass billet flywheel, to replace the tired std item.. Whilst the box was out the luid was changed for good measure. Shifting was transformed..
The brakes needed doing next as when i bought the car they were extremely tired (Used this as a bargining tool!).. So i opted for the popular Ferrodo DS2500 pads mated to EBC Ultimax discs, with Motul RBF600 fluid keeping things in order.. The rears got done with std. ATE discs and ATE pads, that I added a chamfered edge and 1mm slot in the middle. Braking was vastly improved!
The car already had a Jetex CAT back system fitted, the only non stock part on the whole car, so in order with helping the breathing a bit i bought an Apiro enlosed induction kit with cold air feed to the front bumper. Its exactly the same filter as the BMC filters with about £100 off the price tag..
Naturally I removed the plastic engine cover, as it looks shite. and replaced all of the vacume hoses with blue silicon as the stock ones were looking pretty tatty. The engine bay got a thourough steam clean and tidy, and thats were things engine wise.. For now..
Next on the agenda was to sort the sloppy aging suspension out.. I bought a full set of Koni adjustable shocks, and Eibach pro kit springs, along with new top mounts, ball joints and wishbones which I complimented with Poloybushes finest.. I also had the wishbones stitch welded. And of course had the geometry done at J-tech Automotive - Local race car preparation garage. using the fail safe Honda touring car stringing kit, and digital camber gauge..
H&R rear hubcentric 20mm spacers soon found their way onto the car, which not only made the car look a lot better, but made the car fell much better on the brakes, and made the car in turn feel a bit more 'pointy'.
All of the above transfored the car into more of the tight hot hatch car I had been after, it was far more capable round the corners than any of my previous VAG cars - just need to get some anti roll bars now..
Next on the list was getting it ready for a bit of track action, this meant a baffled sump courtesy of Pro alloy, I believe a copy of the Seat Sport item, to control oil surge. And a catch tank to prevent the stupid design of routing the oil breather on the rocker cover back to the now blanked off TIP.
Then the customary Iridium plugs, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, and genral check over..
So now the need for power, having sorted the suspension, brakes, and drivechain to a fairly good degree, the power issue had be solved..
Having to use the car as a daily ruled out Big turbo and such other conversions, and wanting a bit more than the power Ko3's produce. the safe route was Ko4-023 - Using as many OEM parts, along with a good combination of important after market parts this was my best route for reliable, strong, turn key power.
Spec i'm aiming for:
Ko3-023 Re-built by Universal Turbos
Ported TT exhaust manifold
Qpeng downpipe and de-cat
Forge TIP
TT MAF
TT Injectors
TT FRP
TT Fuel pump
Pro Alloy FMIC
Custom Re-map
I am currently at the stage of collecting parts as you will see from the pics, but progress is coming along. So hopefully soon I will have my standard looking CupraTT..
Pic from my Bedford trackday on the 26th of this month hopefully with some vids as well, will follow shortly after..
And some pics of the oil catch tank and sump, which might be of interest to some people.
