Anyone heard of the new Leon MKII Cupra R, apparently to be announced at the next Frankfurt motorshow, for around €30k?

The official SEAT Slovakia website shows 2 Leon Cupra models in their car configurator: our well known standard Cupra with 240bhp, and a "new" Cupra with 265 bhp...

I hope there'll be a new body kit as well. Drooling already... No piccies available yet :(

Can't post the full url for seat.sk

All rumour at the moment, but something is expected to be announced at Frankfurt yes.

Interesting you can spec a Cupra with higher power on that configurator. Still says Cupra though and I wouldn't expect anything to be appearing on the SEAT sites until any press announcement. Could be a country specific tuning package on a std. Cupra.

Slightly further through on the interior bit it refers to Cupra / Cupra R........................

Not sure I can justify one quite yet 6 months after buying a normal Cupra...

But surely if a standard Cupra already has 250 - 260 bhp the Cupra with Cupra R would be pointless.

It should have 300 bhp to take on the likes of the Focus RS and have a proper LSD and or the Haldex System which I don't thing VW/Audi would allow.

Also how could they better the styling over a standard Cupra or Aero kit? It should have a Carbon front end with Carbon rear splitter and dual oval tailpipes....

True, and doesn't seem to have anything much meaningful over a Cupra bar maybe the 19" wheels. BUT ... the 265bhp engine easily remaps to over 340bhp doesn't it - Backdraft managed 360bhp from the stock turbo with bolt-ons!

JKM wrote a good post recently that basically said all the stock Cupras they have measured on their RR only produce the manufactures 240 bhp output and the increased power outputs measured on other Dyno's have been down inaccuracies the way the other Dyno's are operated.
You don't normally get something for nothing.
When the Lcr's first came out it was said that some were over powered but that has since been put to bed.

If the cupra R is released with just simple design tweaks and engine output of only 265bhp, surely it's not much of an improvement over the existing cupra?! It would have to include at least a decent LSD, an option of DSG, possibly even 4wd to make it not only more of a rival to the latest hot hatches around but to make it worth buying:confused:
