Anyone ever come up with a permanant fix for this stupid idea of no support on the exhaust system where the catback/centre box join is? Im so fed up of the bloody thing working loose and dropping slightly and ending up blowing that ive come up with the idea of cutting an old section of exhaust pipe and sleeving it, and using two clamps therefore hopefully giving it enough strength to hold firmly.

As said, anyone else any idea's how to remedy this?
pics would be a bonus too (as I know its a problem that not only Ive got )

:D

it's sleeved anyway isnt it ?

there's a couple of mount holes used for the centre drop/catch bracket with the little bumpe stop on so why not try and bracket off them ?

Daz, its not sleeved as such, the clamp that is on there is about an inch and half wide, but still works loose eventually.. the exhuast at theat end is all standard (im just running a Mk3 Cupra backbox) think I'll try making up a sleeve later or in the morning and try it tomorrow weather permitting :D

That part (265-459) is definately missing from mine, Ive got a clamp on there that looks like one of the clamps that are 'on' the sleeve. Ive grabbed another clamp from the local kwik-**** down the road, so will have a blast at making a sleeve tomorrow, if that fails, I'll give you a yell Fl@ps ;)

*update*

Clamp fashioned/fettled out of an old piece of exhuast back box I had rusting away in the back shed.. BUT... its not blowing from there! :(:(... its torn where the hanger is just behind the centre box :(

so, for now ive got some liquid metal, took the hanger off.. will let the liquid set , then get a jubilee type clip/thingummy-geoffrey, then use that to hold the hanger in position on the pipework.

if that fails (sods law) then it looks like seeing if I can get it welded , or worst case scenario replacement centre-box time.

local budget exhaust center sorted mine, he welded most of the system for me, (leaaving a spot to still seperate it if need be). no problems since at all. only charged a fiver to do it, and fitted my remus back section into the deal. this involved fashioning a reducer also!!!!
bargain.

Telford ay it...
You sorted this mate? I've sleeved mine and used the original Seat clamp but the sleeve ain't thick enough so the joint sags and knocks after a while. I think I need a reducer.

no. weathers been against me,, its ok at the moment, but I know its gonna give again, so I have the sleeve ready and waiting.
one of a (very) long list of things on the 'to do' list for the spring/summer shows, but tbh, the cars taking a bit of a back seat at present due to weather issues and other plans.

I got my local exhaust fitter to manufature a reducer out of several small sections of pipe. All welded in place it has suffered no movements and minimal nocking since

only welded on the reducing section though. Clamp is still in use and end of center section intact for future replacements. Very neat job too. Only charged three quid to cover a pint!!!!!!
