Mk1 Leon Front Door Speaker

Hey,

My sister blew the speaker in the NS Front door. I had a couple of 6.5 speakers knocking about and said I'd throw them in for her. I took the door panel off today and realised that the original speaker is in a plastic affair and is popped onto the door. Also it uses an oem connector to the wiring loom.

What do I need to do to fit the speakers I have, or is it better to get a speaker from seat?

Thanks in advance!

The wiring, as you said, is OEM. Autoleads make a speaker-adaptor package that actually had the correct clips for connection the wiring to a new set of speakers.

If you don't have them. use insulated connectors!

You don't know which kit that is do you?

The only one I can see is the mk4 kit (SAK-3103) and I can't see it listed anywhere that it definitely includes wiring adapters. The images only show the surround adapter.

Thanks for the info!

When I last worked there, there were alternate adaptors for some fitments, and i think there was a choice for the Leon. I *think* it had the same code, but was a revised or out-dated pack. Sounds stupid, I know, but Autoleads changed their packaging and connector colours for no apparent reason.

Hmm, well I've emailed them now. Hopefully they can tell me what kit I need.

I've decided that if I'm changing the speaker I might as well do both subs and tweeters in the front doors together. I'm looking at a set of Infinity components.

What's the script with changing the tweeters? Is there more adapters needed?

Am I right in thinking that I read somewhere that both speakers are sent full music info and have crossovers built in?

How do I combine the 2 lots of cables into a signal crossover that will come with the components?

thanks again.

Tweeters are gonna be tricky as they clip directly into mouldings in the top of the doorcard

TBH, the factory standard ones are more than good enough and it's probably not worth the hassle of making new tweeters fit.

This is where my audio knowledge starts to wear thin - I know what they look like, but not how they actually work :(

The built in crossovers look like the most likely setup. You could try a full range speaker across the plug for the tweeter and see what you get.

Glue the crossovers that come with the *other* speakers to the doorskin or doorcard and only use the low frequency output ;)
