MK1 Headlight Bracket Repair Possible?

Hi Everyone,

I recently returned from 18 months abroad and have returned to the UK to get my MK1 Leon back on the road, past the joys of the MOT criteria. Unfortunately before I left I bumped into the back of someone and broke the fastening clips for the headlights which fasten the unit to the body of the car. At the time I was able to use some resin to fix the broken clips although I took it for the MOT today and they explained that I needed to replace the whole unit!?

Naturally this seems excessive as the rest of the unit is fine so I have been looking at repair kits to simply swap out the broken clips but they tend to originate from abroad on eBay etc. I was wondering if I could call on the benefit of your experience to ask for suggestions on what to do here? Does anyone have experience of these repair kits and would this allow the MOT to be passed? It just seems mad to have to buy a whole new headlight unit when they largely still work!

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Euan

Hi mate, it's because those clips have an effect on the headlight alignment. And if it needs adjusting for the MOT then they won't be able to. I'm not sure about repairing it tbh. May just be easier to get some 2nd hand lights from ebay

Hi there.

Mty is right, the alignment will suffer from a non well fixing procedure. And the shaking and bumper may crack the fix meanwhile.
Would check the 2nd hand ones or scrapyards.
You can always buy a headlight that have the front glass broken (cheaper) and just swap the back. Needs a hot gun although and a bit of patience.
