Misting up

My MK2 Toledo seems to be very prone to misting up of the windows, esp the windscreen. Running the aircon on demist soon clears it but I was wondering whether theres anything I can do to prevent/reduce the misting up in the first place?
I also find that if I dont run the air con all the time that the inside of the windscreen seems to have a slight film on it which reappears even if I clean it off. Anyone got any ideas, or is this normal?

Normal with mine. Seems to mean the climate control is an essential in winter so I hope it never goes t*ts up!

I'm in the same boat. At first i thought it was a faulty winscreen seal (windscreen was replaced in August), but this has been ruled out with the help of a hosepipe and a stiff neck.

It would be interesting to know when you last had the Air-con regassed as i don't believe mine has been done since it was manufactured (1999). I'm planning on getting this done in the next couple of weeks, but i've yet to find a decent garage in Winchester who can do this for me at a reasonable price.

The long and the short of it is, Toledo's the same with Leons and other cars based on the Golf platform are prone to misting up and as annoying as it is we've just got to accept it

Are you talkin' to me?
Misting up with Leons & Toledos initially was due to things like the door seals that held the ancillary carrier to the door body behind the door card. These were made of foam, and the rainwater would just seep in if the doors were left closed for long periods. I had a Leon that went back 3 times to get this sorted, and it was still useless. Also the pollen filter housing at the bottom of the windscreen, behind where the glovebox and passenger air bag is, can leak in heavy downpoors.

Hope this helps.

Although I gather those problems are pretty common I don't think the cause is damp in the car. It's just from exhaled breath condensing on the screen. As vee5 said the normal blower doesn't clear it like on most cars - it seems the climate is required as soon as the weather starts to get a bit brisk. Not major problem but it's worth checking out the things you mention if people have got it real bad.

It seems this is common with door seal problems... I've known a couple of people with this issue. They also had slight water ingress in the doors..

No obvious signs of damp/leaks in the car, although I have noticed when opening the door after the car has been sat in heavy rain that an amount of water seems to be "held" by the door seal and then released (outide the car) when the door is opened.
Degudodger pls let us know the results of your regass when you get it done as it sounds like the results of this woulod be of interest to many of us!
