Drove the new Ibiza in the dark for the first time - why can I only see 10ft in front of me on dipped ?, tried adjusting and it went down to a few less, OK on main beam though. Then the missus tries to find a cd in the glove box - no light ! Should there be one ? surely there should be one, or is that an insignificant detail ?

Good old Seat consistency. Think it all depends what year your car is. Mine's an 05 plate FR with no light in glovebox or boot.

As for the lights, it may be worth getting them checked out as they may be set too low.

It's gotta go in anyway, after reading threads on lenses misting, I assumed it would be quite minor - it is terrible, so bad, that water drips down the inside of the glass !
I am generally impressed with the build quality but I question the consistency wrt level of equipment, the grab handles aren't damped, it's only a flippin' spring, no gas strut to hold up the bonnet, the storage bins aren't lined - I could go on. Pleasantly surprised about the full sized alloy spare, but is it necessary ? I am not one of those 'something for nothing' peole who expect everything, but I am talking about stuff that costs pence - not even pounds. Halfrauds sell interior light assemblies for glove boxes (and boots) for 89p for goodness sake. The damped grab handles are made by making one hinge tighter and adding a spring to other, I'll make my own, just pennies. Why ? That spare is worth (at their prices) £150 booted. I have e-mailed Seat UK pointing these things out - no reply.:censored:They have got to listen to the people who count - US. Wifey buys a Renault - standard kit includes auto rain detect wipers, auto-on lights, self healing headlight lenses, air-con outlet (and light) in glove box (handy for those sandwiches), the list is endless. They threw in leccy sunroof, as she is a repeat customer ! What did I get ? Still love the car - it is loosening off now (250 miles) and for a diesel spins quite freely, well chuffed. :)

same with mine, 05 plate, no light in glove box or boot, and misted lights. yey, im thinking about wiring likghts too the boot tho, rubbish when u cant see what you are doing.

as for the lights. take off the covers on the back on a dry day and and go for a spin for half hour or so, and leave them off while engine warm. mine cleared up a bit after that.

The full alloy spare is so it clears the huge brakes the cupra has ;)

Thanks for the tip FR-RUSH, I'll say goodbye to another knuckle. Gotta be worth doing, if it has got damp I must get it back to dry before expecting it to improve.
Banging on - as usual, I want the side skirts from Seat and also the door strips colour coded, wifey, (style guru - NOT) said the black strip breaks up the huge expanse of yellow, anyone done it ? The Leon's are colour coded (and side strips fitted - here I go again), and look good, but the door ain't anywhere near as big.

It looks as if SEAT must have listened to some of the complaints as, according the Spanish site, all models of the facelifted Ibiza will come with a boot light and the Stylance and above have a glovebox light. Whether they will be on the UK cars remains to be seen. It seems unbelievable that the original Sport models came with a boot light but SEAT went to the trouble of removing it on later versions.

For some reason the top of the range Cupra misses out on some standard and optional equipment available on the FR, such as steering wheel radio controls, sunroof and xenons.

I don't know why Ibizas suffer so badly from misted lights but the last time I was at the dealers I was looking at the new, unregistered cars and a surprising number of them – all models – had misted lights. Mine clear and mist according to the weather conditions. I suppose I could use the car as a barometer instead of driving it.

yep i noticed that with my lights. I actaully got out the car to check they were working--I thought it was just the side lights. Think Im goign to try some uprated bulbs and see what happens. Cant be bothered goignt o seat dealer in aberdeen about the lights misting yet, will probably just wait a year until the first service and get all the faults done at once!!

t_searle - Mine has got the uprated Philips BlueVision 4K bulbs for the dipped (I need to buy a pair of H3's for the main yet), still no good, I can see further with the sides and fogs on - AND I AIN'T GONNA DO THAT. I took a quick look at the adjusters but I don't wanna knack up the leccy drive. Just nipping out to see if I have a boot light. Back on to missing bits, nice touch for the drivers seat having a nice big storage bin, can I get another to fit in the passengers seat ? (part No's ? - it's gotta be worth it) are there already runners fitted ?I want to know before I rip the cover off ! I am picking up my strut brace at lunch I don't want to spend 30 minutes waiting for the parts guy to do whatever he does after he closes the store-room door !

The only definitive cure (that ive found) for misting lights is to drill two holes in the back of each bulb cover.

When I did it, they took about a day to dry out, and havnt fogged since :D

Drilling holes in the light covers to let out moisture, which has already got in when they are specifically there to stop the moisture getting in, cannot possibly affect a warranty, how hard is it to stick tape back over the holes ?. I will take them off on a dry day (when's that then ?) and see if the easiest option has the desired effect. The seal is in effect stopping that moisture in there ever getting out ! Next step is to drill the holes, if that don't work - I'll put rubber bungs in - same seal as the rubber around the outside edge. Anyroads, my last Ibiza (Mk2 Cupra) [Why did they stop doing the Copper ?] not only had glove box light, leccy sunroof, boot light, damped grab handles - IT HAD NO LIGHT COVER - at all, never had any condensation or a light bulb blowing in 5 years. What I DO have is an endless supply of blue silica crystals (I use them in my CI drier kit), I could just hollow out the rubber bungs, and fill them with silica to go in to the back of the light covers - how clever am I ?

I read in another thread yesterday that there is a free kit on it's way to Seat dealers soon to deal with the misting lights problem, and IIRC it's going to be free.

Philaw -> With regards to all the things you listed which cost just pence each, from the manufacturers point of view, when you multiply that by hundreds of thousands of cars (maybe millions?) rolling off the production line, a few quid total per car (plus labour to fit) adds up to a substantial sum.

Also, someone mentioned why you can't get Xenons on the Cupra - it's because the huuge front intercooler on the Cupra TDI gets in the way of the headlamp washer pipework, which are a legal requirement if you have Xenon lights :)

Johnsey made a good point about the spare too. Mine has 16" alloys and a 16" steel spare (which does clear my 312mm conversion, I've checked) - but I'm not sure if there are any steel 17" wheels anywhere in the range, so for a relatively small number of cars it probably works out cheaper just to bung in a full size alloy, than procure a small number of 17" steelies just for the Cupra models and add it to all their parts catalogues etc...

Options for Mk4 Ibiza:

6cd changer - £3,560
Cruise control - many hundreds of ££'s
Sat-nav - Ridiculous amount of money
Glove-box light - 89p (+2 minutes of skilled electrician to plug it in)
2 holes in your headlight bulb covers to overcome Seat's design fault - 1 knuckle

What one are you gonna have ???

Sorry I don't subscribe to the manufacturers way of saving by removing things that have been standard forever. The last car I owned with no glove box light was a Mk1 Ford Escort. All previous Seat's had damped grab handles, and all came with a boot light (& including the Escort). Have you never tried to find something in the glovebox in the dark? Why should we have to ?. This one just got my goat - Oh yeah - when are Seat gonna produce the millionth Cupra ? It is (almost) the top of the range, certainly it is wrt price. I wouldn't moan if I had just spent £6,995 on an entry level Fiat, but this one had a list price is £15,500. Would you buy a top of the range plasma telly with no remote because it saved Sony a few quid ? would you buy a new 4 bed detached house with an outside toilet ? These things have passed from being luxuries to being standard. We are talking about a device that turns a little bulb on when you open the glove box in the dark - not much to ask it ? Rant over.

It's especially galling when the Skoda equivalent for less money comes with: glovebox light, bootlight, ashtray light, puddle lights on doors, refrigerated glovebox and drink can compartment and probably some other things I don't know about. No wonder they outsell SEAT's offering.

Mind you they too come with misty headlights, various rattles and the added attraction of leaking rear doors.:D
